5/6 GRADE: NEW START/END TIME FOR STUDENTS
Dear Cooper, Johnson and Riley Elementary Parents/Guardians:
Our desire as a school district is to continuously review and improve our processes and procedures, in order to best serve our students and school community. After monitoring bus arrival and dismissal times from our K-4 schools this fall, we have identified an issue with regard to later than desired arrival times in the morning for some of our busses, as well as delayed pick up times at some of our schools after school. With winter weather coming, we realize the potential of this issue being compounded.
Currently, there is a gap of 34 minutes between the start time of middle schools (gr. 7-8) and upper elementary (gr. 5-6), and a 20 minute gap between lower elementary (K-4) and upper elementary (5-6). We would like to even this gap to 27 minutes between each start time, in order to allow a more timely flow between the lower and upper elementary bus routes. Because elementary bus routes are being covered by fewer drivers due to a shortage, and the time span being so close, the district will be moving to a new start and dismissal time for all upper elementary schools, beginning on January 8, 2018.
All start and dismissal times will be moved 7 minutes earlier for students at Cooper, Johnson and Riley.
Current Start Time: 8:34 a.m.
NEW Start Time as of Jan. 8, 2018: 8:27 a.m.
(Students should arrive no earlier than 8:15 a.m.)
Current Dismissal Time: 3:39 p.m.
NEW Dismissal Time: 3:32 p.m.
We appreciate your cooperation and ask that you watch for potential changes in your student's bus stop pick-up and drop-off times via Parent Connect. The new bus times will be posted during the week of December 18, 2017, but please plan ahead for roughly a 7 minute earlier pick-up and drop-off.
If you have questions regarding this change, please speak with your child's principal or contact Cindy Scott, Director of Elementary Programs; if you have questions regarding your child's transportation times after the notices have been uploaded to Parent Connect, please email email@example.com, or contact our Transportation Department at 734-744-2517.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
