Picturing Resilience
Eaton County Youth Photovoice Project Begins 1/14/20
Opportunity for 8th -12th grade Eaton County Students!
Picturing Resilience: Eaton County Youth Photovoice Project
Youth (grades 8-12) are invited to participate in a 5-session photography and resilience-building project called "Picturing Resilience" to express their viewpoints and to help us explore these questions:
- What inspires youth to be healthy and resilient amidst life's challenges?
- What supports youth in reaching for their dreams?
- What can your community do to better support youth in being resilient?
Youth will join with other teens in capturing pictures and telling stories about the issues that matter most to them related to youth health, wellness and mental health (including but not limited to self-esteem, bullying, suicide, teen depression, substance use, violence, dating, grades, extra curricular activities, setting goals, making friends, pursuing dreams and being happy).
Youth will have the opportunity to take the photos and captions they create and to turn them into a display to inform decision makers and the community about what teens most need today to be healthy and motivated to pursue their dreams. In the process, we will teach youth skills to cultivate resilience in their personal lives to combat teen stress.
We are looking for 6 youth to meet for five 1.5-hour Photovoice sessions and submit minimal photographic content online in between sessions as they develop their own photovoice slides. Digital cameras will be available for use during and in between sessions if needed.
Meeting Location: Eaton Rapids Teen Space at the Union Street Center, 501 Union Street, Eaton Rapids, MI, 48827
We will hold 5 sessions:
- Tuesday, January 14, 3:00 to 4:30 p.m.
- Monday, January 20, 3:00 to 4:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, January 21, 3:00 to 4:30 p.m.
