D97 Library News
October 2017
Happy October!
We are pleased to be including the entire community of District 97 - patrons, families and staff in our monthly newsletters. Each month our teacher librarians will collaborate to bring you great information to highlight the experiences our students have in our elementary school libraries. We hope you find this information useful and value any feedback that you care to share. Please direct any comments or questions about this month's edition to Mindi Maneck at Holmes (mmaneck@op97.org) or Katie Noonan at Irving (knoonan@op97.org).
Enjoy!

Makerspace Highlight : Longfellow and Lincoln
D97 Librarians are incorporating lots of hands on, project-based, makerspace activities in the school libraries this year. Each month we will highlight two schools!
Longfellow 1st graders designed a new pirate ship for Henry and the Buccaneer Bunnies.
Using the online card catalog, Lincoln fifth graders had to solve riddles in order to "breakout" of the library.
They had 30 minutes to unlock all five of the locks. It was a success!
Some Spooky Read Alouds

Alvin Schwartz's classic collection of folklore is still one of the spookiest around! Older elementary readers love these retellings, and the drawings are sure to send shivers down your spine.
Beware! collected by R.L. Stine
Master of spook, R.L. Stine, picks his favorite scary stories in this delightful collection. Includes a short story by Ray Bradbury, a selection from Roald Dahl's The Witches, and a poem by Jack Prelutsky.
Creepy Carrots by Aaron Reynolds
The carrots in Crackenhopper Field aren't following Chester the rabbit home. It's just his imagination! Or is it?
