The end of the advisory is approaching. Please make sure that your student is checking ASPEN for assignments and for current grades.
Once we finish that quiz we will jump into the theme of Unit 2: Journey of the Cocoa Bean. Students will inquire about where their goods come from, learn about the stages of production and be able to understand the importance of fair trade products.
Homework: Review Worksheet AND study for quiz on Monday
CEA #7: The Americas - Due Tuesday
ELA: This week students will work on a writing prompt that requires them to include all of the literary elements that we have been working on in class. Your student should be in the process of reading an independent reading book that is due to be read by Friday, November 1.
MATH:
Math 6 students will learn how to solve problems with speed and distance and they will also start learning about percents and discounts.
Math 7 students will start learning about integers. They will take a Summative C on Friday.
Everyday students should bring a math composition notebook and two sharpened pencils to class.
SCIENCE: This week in science, we will have the opportunity to demonstrate the lunar phases using Oreos to model the process. We have our Roots Summative for the advisory so students will review on Tuesday and then ACE the exam on Wednesday. On Thursday, students will review the lunar cycle and then wrap up the week with an exam on Friday. There are no new roots this week.
Dinner table conversation: What is the best angle to hit a home run in the World Series? Why does reviewing notes help before a test? Why do people have different religious beliefs? Why do so many cultures use a new moon to mark an event? What is a Harvest Moon?
Final note: Please let me know if you need a link for Season 1 of COSMOS.
