Cartersville Middle School
The Hurricane Watch, January 2023
Hello, CMS families.
Welcome back for the second semester of the 2022-2023 school year. The spring at CMS is filled with academic and extracurricular excitement. As we approach our yearly spring testing window, we will continue to stress our essential standards to our students over the course of the approximately 70 instructional days remaining. The spring semester concludes our winter athletic seasons and ramps up our spring sports of soccer, track and field, and tennis. This semester our musical theater program will be conducting a performance of the Little Mermaid Jr. We encourage you and your family to come out and support our students.
Go, Canes!

Adventure Awaits in the Library!
Several years ago, the Media Center decided to Genre-fy their Fiction collection. What does it mean to Genre-fy? Genre-fication is the process of assigning genres to books with the intent of helping patrons find books of interest. In a nutshell, it makes libraries more like bookstores, and it is transforming student motivation and interest in reading! This month we will spotlight some of our new books in the Action & Adventure section. Stop by and check out some today!
· 96 Miles by J.L. Esplin
· The Canyon’s Edge by Dusti Bowling
· City Spies by James Ponti
· Charlie Thorne and the Last Equation by Stuart Gibb
· Scar Island by Dan Gemeinhart
Cheer Tryouts
Hello CMS families! Our students will complete the Georgia Student Health Survey (GSHS) within the next few weeks. Per the Georgia Department of Education, the GSHS assesses student perceptions of school climate and safety. Please email your child’s counselor by Monday, 1/16/23, if you do not want him/her to participate.
