SHARK SHOUTOUTS
I would like to give a shark shout-out to my Marine Science student Anna Bianco for rescuing a sea turtle last weekend. While walking on Cold Storage Beach in Dennis, Anna came across a cold-stunned Kemp's ridley sea turtle that had washed in with the high tide. She promptly called the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary/Mass Audubon and followed their directions (involving moving the turtle above the high tide line, covering it with seaweed, and marking its location so a rescue volunteer could retrieve it). Anna then waited patiently for the rescuer to arrive so she knew the turtle would be in good hands. These turtles are typically brought to the New England Aquarium for rehabilitation before being transported back down south to warmer waters for release. We hope this guy (or gal) makes it through the rehabilitation process since, as a critically endangered species, every turtle counts. Great Job Anna!! - Ms. Picariello

- I would like to thank Ellen Bearse, Beth Dietz and Leah Tambolleo for accompanying our group to Providence to see "Les Miserables" on Sun. Nov. 20th. We had a blast!" -Madame Linnell

Sandscript's Planet Exhibit
It's so great when colleagues work together on crafting student projects and then invite another colleague to join in! Many thanks to Ciara Gregoli and Dr. James Otto for inviting Sandscript, our writing club, to write poems about planets that their cross-curricular planet project inspired. After finally finishing our Halloween stories, we returned to the planets. After researching a bit, some of our Sandscript members wrote terrific poems. The poems are on display upstairs along with photos from the planet project and drawings by Sandscript member, Grace Latta.

Cape Cod Community College Maintenance Technology Program
- CAPE COD COMMUNITY COLLEGE MAINTENANCE TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM
- PLYMOUTH CAMPUS VISIT ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 13.
- PLEASE SEE MS. ARMSTRONG IN GUIDANCE. SPACE IS LIMITED!
The Aviation Maintenance Technology program will prepare you for FAA Certification, and lay the foundation for an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Aviation Maintenance, and transfer into a variety of four-year programs.
Aviation maintenance technicians (AMT’s) are the professionals who fix and maintain aircraft. AMT’s repair and service nearly every part and system of an aircraft, including landing gear, aircraft structure and engine systems. AMT’s are also called A&P mechanics because of their airframe and power plant certifications. AMT’s are in high demand and make a higher return on their education investment than pilots, doctors and lawyers.
5 Credit Class at Cape Cod Community College: Emergency Medical Technician
Students interested in the medical, military, or emergency services fields may want to consider enrolling in the Emergency Medical Technician program in January at Cape Cod Community College beginning on January 23, 2023. This five credit course will enable students to take the state exam at the end of April upon successful completion of the course. Please see your Guidance Counselor or Ms. Armstrong for a registration form and more details.
Some additional supports within our community
We know the holiday season can be a joyful special time for families, and also can be challenging in many ways. Below are some resources available to Monomoy families. If you have any questions or need support in accessing these resources, please feel free to contact school adjustment counselor Danya Bader-Natal at DBader-Natal@monomoy.edu or your guidance counselor.
- Community Resource Navigator Program - Connects families with resources! Appointments can be scheduled by contacting CRNavigator@outercape.org or calling (774) 209-3222.
- The Outer Cape Health Services Community Navigator program helps assist residents with unmet medical, behavioral health, or human service needs through collaboration with local agencies, providers, and community groups. The Navigator meets clients at a safe location of their choosing, including their home, a public location, or Outer Cape Health Services at Provincetown, Wellfleet, and Harwich locations.
Care Solace - is a resource families can access either independently, or one our guidance or adjustment counselor can help with.
- Care Solace is an online resource with a live 24/7 concierge meant to assist individuals in finding local mental health-related programs and counseling services. Care Solace is a tool for school staff and families to connect with community-based mental healthcare resources and providers. Their proprietary care navigation system taps into a vast database of mental healthcare resources to find carefully vetted local therapists and programs in minutes.
- School district families and staff may access Care Solace services in two ways:
- Call (888) 515-0595 to speak with someone from your Concierge team - Representatives are standing by to take your call or email 24/7/365.
- Visit your custom district link: Care Solace MRSD
- Family Resource Center in Hyannis- 508-815-5100 www.capecodfamilyresourcecenter.org
- The Family Resource Center offers a variety of services - with the goal to support families to strengthen their bonds, connect to others, and engage in their community. They offer a variety of groups, including Grandparent Groups, Moms Groups, Dads Groups and Teen Groups. Their monthly calendar can be found here.
- 988 - 988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (now known as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary.
