Around the School Spotlight

This week, our 5th graders got to learn about the importance of voting as they made their vote for Oregon’s next Kid Governor. They watched the platform videos of the 7 finalists, discussed the topics that mattered to them, then privately made their vote. We are excited to see who wins!

Nutrition Services Update: Milk for School Lunches

The Nutrition Services Department was recently notified by our milk vendor that they will be experiencing shortages due to supply chain issues for milk cartons, which could impact the availability of milk options for our school lunches in the coming weeks. This may mean that there will only be one flavor of milk option (instead of the standard two) or that juice may be served as an alternative as needed.

All cafeterias will continue to offer milk as usual until we are affected by the shortage. Juice has been ordered as a backup in the event that milk is not available to offer. Many school districts will be affected by this supply chain shortage, so it is a possibility that juice may also become unavailable due to higher demand.

We will continue to update families as we learn more information from our vendor. Thank you for your understanding.

Inclement Weather Reminders/School Closures

With the falling leaves and the changing temperatures, before long it will once again be time to plan for possible inclement weather days. In the event of school closures or delays related to weather, our district will use the following methods of communication:

  • School Messenger - This is an automated system that will send district or school level alerts, newsletters, or announcements to the parent/guardian information on file with the school. If your email address or phone number have changed, please update your contact information with your child's school office. If you have unsubscribed from these messages in the past but would like to be re-enrolled, please contact for assistance.

  • District Website - All high-priority alerts will be posted to the main SSD website here (look for a red alert bar at the top of the website for most up-to-date information).

  • FlashAlert - This is a free subscription service that alerts users via text or app notifications. Sign up at or by downloading the FlashAlert app on your smartphone. If you have signed up for FlashAlert previously, please sign in to make sure your subscription is current. If you are not subscribed to our channel, you can search for "Sherwood Sch. Dist." to sign up for our district's alerts.

For real time updates on adjustments to school bus routes, parents/guardians are also encouraged to use our Transportation Department's Ride360 app. For more information on this app, please visit our website at the link below.
