Supreme Court Cases
Griswold v. Connecticut
Griswold was the Executive Director of the Planned Parenthood League of Connecticut. She and other people gave medical advice to married couples explaining birth control to the people. They were convicted under the Connecticut law which made it illegal to have counseling or other medical treatment, to prevent conception.
Bowers V. Hardwick
Michael Hardwick was found by a Georgia police officer while engaging in homosexual sodomy with another adult in the bedroom of his home. He was charged with violating a Georgia statute that made sodomy illegal. He went to the Federal District Court, his case was dismissed. He then appealed and the Court of Appeals, and the Court of Appeals reversed the saying and said that Georgia's statute was unconstitutional. They would take this trial to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court found that there was no constitutional protection on sodomy and that the states could outlaw the practice if they wanted too. The vote was 5 votes for Bowers, 4 votes for Hardwick.
