The Declaration of Independence is a statement that was adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776.
Why was the Declaration of independence written?
The Declaration of Independence was written in order to explain why the colonists wanted independence against Great Britain.
What did the Declaration of Independence do?
It announced that the thirteen American colonies regarded themselves as thirteen newly independent sovereign states. It also announced that they are no longer a part of the British Empire.
