A Peek at our Week
Writing: This week during Writing Workshop, students continued to work on their personal narratives. They learned how to think of an idea, touch and tell their story across the pages, and write the words. They also learned that our stories might need to be revised by adding to the pictures and adding to the words. Students learned that stories are all around us and that something can happen to us one day that would make a great story the next day! OUr How to Write a Story chart is pictured below!
Math: This week, students continued to work with number bonds with whole numbers to 10. They really enjoy the fluency activity Shake Those Disks, where they get to shake a certain number of red/yellow counters, drop them on their table, and find the matching number bond on their paper. We worked on partners to 10 quite a bit. Knowing the ways to make 10 is very important to future math skills this year. They can practice at home finding the missing part of 10 (when I have 8, how many do I need to make 10?) We will also focus on finding the missing part (addend). Students will learn to solve problems such as 6 + ___ = 8. They will also work with number sentences where the whole number is first (8 = 6 + ___)
Word Study: This week, we focused on the short i sound. Students worked with consonant-vowel-consonant words both in isolation and in various decodable texts. We also worked with the base word "print" and thought of words related to that word (prints, printed, printing, printer, etc). Next week, we will focus on the short vowel u.

Holiday party volunteers needed!
Hello! We are excited to welcome parents to our holiday parties! We are looking for volunteers to plan and attend our 3 classroom parties: Fall, Winter, & Valentines. We are only able to have 5 volunteers per party. If you are interested in planning and attending/running a party, please add your name to the sign up. Once names of interested parents are collected, I will randomly select 5 for each party. Times are approximate...we do not have exact party times yet. More details about planning the parties will come for those volunteers as the dates get closer. Thank you!
Please use the link below to show interest in planning and attending the parties. I will collect names through Friday, October 6, then randomly select and send out the names of the lucky volunteers!
