Knox News!
November 2019
Welcome To November!
Hello Knox Families!
We had so much fun during October. Our students earned many brag tags for their p1 report cards and our Bulldog Way theme of Trustworthiness. Our students earned tags for Perfect and Responsible Attendance, GPA and Citizenship. Our students were also able to purchase a Halloween Brag Tag for their friends at the ASB store. A huge congratulations to our students that have earned tags for reading articles in our Achieve 3000 reading program.
This month, our Bulldog Way theme is Positivity. Each Advisory teachers will select the student who has demonstrated this characteristic. Students will get a brag tag and then spend the day on a STEM trip to the zoo.
Our Knox ASB put on their first pep rally of the year. Thank you to Ms. Hesse for her guidance. It was an incredible event. Lots of fun games, musical performances, celebrations of achievement and rewards for our awesome students! Check out the pictures below of our teachers as mummies!
We have also begun our school-wide Advisory reading program Achieve 3000, in order to promote our school-wide literacy focus. We are excited for our students to begin to monitor their own reading growth on a daily basis. Please ask your student about this program and their current Lexile level. You received a copy of your child's reading level in the envelope with their p1 report card.
Students can also read articles at home or in morning reading lab from 7:30-8:00 every morning at Knox.
Morning Achieve 3000 Reading Lab Schedule: 7:30-8:00am
Monday- Room 6
Tuesday-Room 3
Wednesday-Room S1
Thursday-Room 103
Friday-Room 206
Thank you to our parents that have been participating in our parent circles and workshops. We appreciate your partnership.
We encourage all students to read for 20 minutes a night independently. Students will be checking out independent reading books during library visits with their English class.
All Knox students will have nightly math homework. Homework is assigned from a math packet that is given to the students at the start of each chapter.
This month, we will be hosting Student-led conferences in all classrooms at Knox on 11/21 from 3:00-4:30pm. These conferences are a great way for your student to show you all of their amazing school work. What are student-led conferences? Thank you for your partnership!
Sincerely,
Principal Potter

Attendance Matters
The STAY curriculum focuses on truancy and attendance. The school-based instruction explores factors which contribute to truancy, and the resulting consequences of missing school. Topics range from goal-setting, coping skills, support system, self-evaluation, and both personal and environmental factors that contribute to truancy.
We will continue to provide incentives to students that clear all of their missed days, showing responsible attendance!
