PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Bulldog Families,

New Britton continues to be a BUSY place. The students and teachers have been busy in all kinds of learning experiences. The following examples are just a few of the things I have seen in classrooms this week:

· Connecting with other classes in and outside of our building for collaborative work

· Hearing from experts about a variety of topics

· Engaging in math problem solving, talking and writing to explain, justify, and prove their answers

· Writing for authentic purposes

· Researching, planning, designing, building models, and then tweaking designs after input and reflection

· Taking part in a reading life by applying new strategies to assist with fluency and comprehension

· Participating in STEM challenges, promoting collaboration and design thinking

The renovation team has also been busy, busy – putting the finishing touches on phase two. All classrooms, the art room, and our Discovery Center have been “released for occupancy”, and teachers have been able to start moving some items to their new spaces over the past week. The majority of our move will take place this weekend so that the classrooms are ready for students on Monday. We would like to send a special thank you to our teachers for the extra time they are devoting to this process and to PTO for providing lunch on Saturday and Sunday. We would also like to thank Boyle Construction for working hard to get rooms released ahead of time and Fanning Howey for assisting teachers on Saturday with our move. This renovation has truly been a team process, and we are grateful to everyone involved!

The current classrooms that are located in the burgundy, or 2nd grade hallway, are relocating to the previous 4th grade hallway (newly renovated) for the remainder of the year. Our kindergarten classes and Mrs. Myers’ first grade class will be moving into the current second grade hallway temporarily, while their rooms are renovated. The tentative completion date of phase 3 is the end of February.

To assist students with this transition, teachers have taken the students on a few visits to their new spaces. We also located the kindergarten and Mrs. Myers’ rooms in the same places and order, just in the 2nd grade hall. Due to the renovation, bus riders will now enter and exit through door 11. We will have several adults posted along this new route to supervise and support students daily. If you have a student who will be in a new location on Monday, please be sure to talk to him/her about the move, but rest assured that we will have additional adults on hand to help students as we transition into these new spaces.

Monday is the official day for our eLearning to make up our time missed on November 15th; however, students will have until December 10th to complete the activities. You will receive communication from your student’s teacher on Monday, December 3rd with more specific information. Students will still attend school during the normal school hours the entire week of December 3rd; teachers will not give any additional homework during this time. If you have any questions, please contact your student’s teacher.

Have a great weekend.

As always, thank you for partnering with us in education. Have a great weekend!

Car Riders

The easiest and most efficient way for your children to get to and from school is the district provided transportation. Our busing system is set in place to transport NBE students safely and efficiently.

If your student needs to be a car rider more than occasionally and you have not yet received a car tag, please email Michelle at mayres@hse.k12.in.us with your name, your student's name and your 4 digit FastLane number to get your car tag. Please hang the car tag from your rear view mirror each day to help expedite the pick up process.
