Local Scholarships
Most of the seniors who are eligible for the college academic scholarships have submitted those applications and all required documents, many have already received scholarship offers, so now it is time to start working on those local scholarships.
Monday, I will speak with seniors during Religion class about the requirements for each of the local scholarships. I also will advise them on their essay, academic resume, and letters of recommendation.
Things to know about the local scholarships:
- Most, if not all, are one time scholarships. In other words, they are not renewable.
- Each scholarship is different--eligibility requirements, application, required documents, where to turn it in, deadlines, etc.--so pay attention to the details and follow the instructions.
- An application may instruct the student to turn in the completed application to my office, but I am not the person who picks the recipients of any scholarship. In those cases, I am just passing the applications turned in to the scholarship committees.
- Some scholarships will be awarded to St. Joseph Seniors, but there are a few where our seniors will be competing with other high school seniors in the county or state for the scholarship.
- Each scholarship committee is looking for something different, so I encourage students who are eligible to apply.
- All the applications for local scholarships are on my website under the FINANCIAL AID/ Scholarships tab. The scholarships are also available to seniors in Google classroom.
- Many of the scholarship representatives will be at the Senior Banquet and Awards Ceremony in May to announce their scholarship recipient.
Right now, the Class of 2019 is getting close to $750,000 in scholarship offers. Please send me a copy of all scholarship offers (even those your child will not accept and use) so that we can see this dollar amount continue to grow. The more that is shared with me, the better I can prepare in advance for the banquet in May and keep everyone informed about how well our senior class is doing in their plans for life after high school! I am extremely proud of them!
Many Blessings,

If your senior has not applied, the application is quick and easy. Just log into https://scholarships.adhe.edu/, set up an account, and apply.
Back in October, I met with the seniors about the state aid available, and many went online and applied (or attempted to apply) that day. However, there are a handful who did not, either due to being absent or having computer issues. Therefore, I wanted to send out a reminder to parents to check the status of the application. Deadline to apply is July 1, 2019.
ADHE will start sending out award notices in late April and May IF the application with all requirements have been submitted (including filing the FAFSA).
