Message from Mrs. Kilday
I hope you had a wonderful weekend. In today's newsletter you will find information about the lottery for the 2023-2024 school year. On January 5th I will be presenting to school committee. During that time I will share proposed tuition for next year, spotlight some highlights of our school and publicly acknowledge the work of our CAPT. Consider watching the meeting via the link the district sends out.
Last Friday we had an early release. Our staff engaged in professional development around challenging behaviors and restorative justice. This was an introduction to restorative justice for our staff and we will be learning more about this philosophy and practice. Our district is prioritizing this and we want to be sure we are a part of it. In the Spring we will host a parent session on restorative justice so that you can understand it as well. As always, we will be looking for developmentally appropriate ways to engage in this with our students. Restorative justice is grounded in community and you know how very important that is for us at the preschool. I am looking forward to learning more about it.
Have a wonderful eveing.

Music Class with Mrs. Kidd
The Rodman Pre-K music classes are held once a week, last approximately 25 minutes, and incorporate the themes used in the preschool program. We use the Musikgarten “Cycle of Seasons” curriculum, which was developed specifically for preschoolers, and Mrs. Kidd is fully trained and licensed in the program. During class, students sing, dance, play instruments and practice echoing rhythmic and tonal patterns, which are like the “A,B,C’s” of learning to read and understand music. We also do stationary movement, finger play and large group movement activities, all of which aid in the students’ motor development, as well as spatial and body awareness. We are very lucky to have many different types of instruments, such as drums, resonator bars, jingles, eggs shakers, and rhythm sticks, which allow students to explore many ways of making music! We also have a beautiful assortment of music scarves, and a favorite part of every class is when they come out and students get to play “Popcorn Kernels.”
We encourage families to continue the music-making at home by singing, dancing and listening to music together. You can even use “found” instruments like pots and pans to create your own song. Music is a wonderful way to bond with your child while also having a great time!
