Grade 1 Is Showing Off Some Impressive Math Skills
Grade 1 took notes in their study guides for their PBL Animal Unit. L. is researching the chickadee. This week, Luka wrote about habitat and appearance.
Preschool News:
This week we completed our unit on insects. Students enjoyed looking for insects, identifying insects, labeling body parts of insects, and describing the difference between insects and other types of non-insects. On Monday, we will let our butterflies go. We enjoyed watching them change from a caterpillar to a chrysalis, and finally a butterfly.
Kindergarten News:
Kindergarten has been learning about the Wild West and life on the Prairie in preparation for the last Magic Tree House book, Ghost Town at Sundown.
The children shared their favorite facts about the wild west. Our Wild West Facts
They are now creating a scene about life out west. As they create they will be reflecting on the facts that they have learned.
When making your Wild West setting these are things to consider:
What do you see?
Do you see a town?
What do the buildings look like?
Do you see people?
How are they dressed?
How do they travel?
Do you see animals?
What’s in their habitat?
Why is the prairie their home?
Do you see plants?
Why are the plants important?
What is the weather like on the prairie?
If you were in your setting during the Wild West time what would you be doing as a pioneer child?
The kindergarten students have been learning all about the Wild West & life on the prairie.

Sharks on Wheels Program Launches
Sharks on Wheels is a meal delivery program for families who are unable to to travel to one of the Grab and Go sites. The existing Grab and Go free meal program is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Monomoy Regional Middle School (425 Crowell Road, Chatham) and Monomoy Regional High School (75 Oak St., Harwich), where families can pick up free breakfast and lunch for each child daily (plus weekend meals on Fridays).
The Sharks on Wheels program is aimed at supporting families who are unable to get to one of the established Grab and Go sites.
There is a signup form on the district's website that families must complete in order to arrange for delivery of meals. MRSD will not be able to schedule delivery until one form per child is submitted. Families need only submit the form once per child in order to sign up for the delivery program. On Mondays, families will receive three breakfasts and three lunches per child, and on Thursdays, families will receive four breakfasts and four lunches, to cover the weekend.
The existing Grab and Go meal program will continue to be available to families.
Questions about Sharks on Wheels or the grab and go meal program can be sent to meals@monomoy.edu.

Cape Cod Positivity Cards - A request from a Senior!
Please take at least a few minutes to create a card or drawing with a positive message for a senior community member. It is recommended to write on the cards “Dear Friend” or “Hello” as an introduction. Some residents in some locations are writing back to students. If you want a response, please include your return address on the card.
Please send the card to the corresponding volunteer for your town. These volunteers will deliver the cards to the nursing homes, senior living centers, and the Council on Aging with whom we have partnered in each town. PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANY CARD DIRECTLY TO ANY LOCATION, EXCEPT TO THE VOLUNTEERS BELOW! All of the locations with whom we have partnered are eager to receive cards, but many can only manage them if they are delivered all at once by a volunteer.
Please mail your cards to the volunteer for your town no later than May 22nd. If you would like to send a card after May 22nd, please contact any location individually. We are not associated with any other card collections, and we are only involved with cards mailed to the volunteers below. Please direct any questions to Liam Randall at lmr3689@gmail.com.
Thank you for your participation!
