MAIN CONFLICT IN SYRIA
The Syrian Civil War, also known as the Syrian Revolution, is an ongoing armed conflict taking place in Syria. The unrest began in the early spring of 2011 within the context of Arab spring protests, with nationwide protests against President Bashar al-Assad's government, whose forces responded with violent crackdowns. The conflict gradually morphed from popular protests to an armed rebellion after months of military sieges.
Type of conflict/effect on ethnic group/ spatial extent/scales played out
In Syria the conflict has gone to a whole other level the citizens are getting threatened with this such as cluster bombs, scud missile attacks, and other chemical weapons. An estimated 9 million Syrians have fled their homes since the outbreak of civil war in March 2011, taking refuge in neighboring countries or within Syria itself. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), over 3 million have fled to Syria's immediate neighbors Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq. not all of the violence is local though most of the action they've seen recently has been defending the Lebanese Shiites living in over 20 border villages inside Syria, Russia has denied accusations that it is taking a side in the war or that it has a special relationship with the current Assad government, and has also accused other countries of aiding the rebels
