Young Learner's Series- The Tennessee River
The Florence Indian Mound Museum is hosting a series of children’s programs where students can explore the early history of the Shoals through hands-on learning exercises. The programs will cover a wide range of topics within Native American history and culture and are aimed at an elementary level age group. Each program will have a creative component with hands-on learning, and all events are free.
The program on the Tennessee River will take place Saturday, September 17th at 10 am. The program will focus on the importance of the River to Native Americans in our area, and why it is still a vital part of our world. Students will participate in a hands-on activity where they will create an exhibit about what they have learned. Please visit here to sign up.
Congratulations on Retiring!

WORSHIPFUL DETAILS
Throughout history, it seems, people might live in plain, non-ornamented houses themselves while at the same time insisting that their houses of worship be architecturally attractive. By and large, that is also the case in the City of Florence. Accompanying this week’s column are examples (numbered 1-4) of beautiful details lovingly incorporated into four local houses of worship:
First Baptist Church on North Wood Avenue
Our Redeemer Lutheran Church on North Poplar Street
St. Joseph Catholic Church on Plum Street
Bethel Cumberland Presbyterian Church on East Alabama Street
Of course, this is just a sampling. An interesting tour of these and so many other examples in Florence awaits all who wish to explore the beautiful, artistic expressions of religious devotion through such careful detailing.
