Week of January 4, 2021
Hello Fellow Falcons and Happy New Year!
I hope that you were able to experience the wonder and joy that Christmas brings with your family and friends these past weeks. We are hopeful that 2021 will be an opportunity for us all to have a fresh start and celebrate new beginnings.
Tuesday, we began our mandatory remote learning period and I am happy to report that we had a very good start. I know that this is not an easy time for everyone especially those families who had to search for alternative sitters and those families who have to juggle working from home and eLearning simultaneously. Thank you to everyone for making the best of it and for rearranging your schedules to do so. While the office staff and I are still working at school this week, it is not the same as having the teachers and students in the building with us. We haven't forgotten how grateful we will be when we can have everyone with us under one roof. We are eagerly awaiting everyone's safe return to in-person learning on January 19.
Typically, our Technology Coordinator, Mrs. Wajrowski, live streams Mass from St. Bede Church for us on Friday mornings, but since we are remote learning, the church live-streamed Mass this morning for us. To view Friday, Jan. 8th Mass, at St. Bede church, please click on the link. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused this morning!
The Catholic Schools Week committee has been hard at work planning for this year's COVID-friendly festivities. As you can imagine, we have had to reimagine how we are going to celebrate keeping our safety protocols in place. Once all the moving parts are in place, we will post the week-long events/activities ASAP.
It is officially scholarship season :)! Thank you to those families who joined our two Empower Illinois events where Bobby Sylvester from Empower Illinois explained the donation process as well as the application process. As we have mentioned the Archdiocese of Chicago is working with Empower Illinois to offer a 2-for-1 matching gift program to the more than 160 schools run by the Archdiocese of Chicago. As a special incentive to our St. Bede families, we are waiving the registration fee for the 2021/22 school year for any family who donates $1,000 or more during the match period to Empower Illinois. Donate between now and February 28, 2021, and your donation will be tripled through the generous 2:1 match program.
See the donation breakdown below based on a $1,000 donation.
Net cost to donor -$100
($1,000 donation - $750 tax credit - $150 registration fee)
Net benefit to St. Bede School (with matching funds) - $2,850
(3,000 - $150 registration fee)
Our goal is to raise $50,000 from now until February 28, 2021. If we can meet this goal that means St. Bede School will have $150,000 in Empower Illinois scholarship dollars to award to students who qualify. We currently have raised..... GET READY FOR THIS.... $40,375 so we are only $9,625 from our goal of raising $50,000. If we exceed the $50,000 that would be amazing and still a benefit for our students but the matching funds are capped at $50,000 per school. We are so close to our goal and I am incredibly proud of our parish and school community for once again coming together for the common good of our children.
Now, more than ever, this is a wonderful opportunity to help our school and support the mission of providing a quality Catholic education to students in our community who may not otherwise be able to afford it.
Thank you for your continued support. To start the donation process please visit www.archchicago.org/tcs or contact firstname.lastname@example.org and 312-534-2617. To receive help with the donation process, contact email@example.com or call the donor helpline @ 800-616-7606.
Happy New Year to everyone!
Peace and joy,
Father/Daughter Bowling Update...
Father/Daughter Bowling is currently scheduled for Sunday, January 24. Governor Pritzker has said Raymond's Bowl can open Jan. 15 if our zone #9 meets all his metrics. We will wait until next Wednesday, January 13, to either give the green light or postpone Father/Daughter Bowling again. We'll let you know as soon as a decision has been made. In the event that things open up, we will send out the form for any people interested in joining that couldn't make the prior date!

COVID-19 Response Topics
● Parents should notify school immediately if:
○ Student isn’t feeling well
○ Student is going to have a COVID test
■ Student test results (positive and negative)
○ Student or family member in household has been in close contact with someone who has tested positive
○ Someone in the household has tested positive
● School gathers information to file report with the OCS Nursing staff
○ When was the student last in school
○ Who were they with?
● School files report within 4 hours of notification
● OCS Nursing staff follow up to provide the following possible items:
○ Individual Quarantine information
○ Close Contact and Casual Contact communications
○ Health Department tracing report
● Only after the OCS Nursing staff provide their report does the school send out communication either close contact or casual contact. This can take some time, so if families or students choose to share their information with others prior to the school reports being completed, there is a lag in school communication.
● Through contract tracing and reporting there is a possibility that families are not notified if the individual hasn’t been at school for a number of days, so again if individuals share their personal information, there may be a void of communication for the school because it isn’t warranted.
● If your student is sent home because of a close contact, they should be monitored and avoid all public gatherings during that close contact quarantine period. I know this is difficult as they may feel fine and have no symptoms, but during this time they could be developing a viral load and become symptomatic within that window and then would have exposed people.
Thank you to everyone who purchased Out of Uniform booklets! We raised over $900.00 that will help with improvements to the school!
Box Tops Contest: We are still collecting box tops online or clipped until further notice!! For every box top that is turned in, the school earns 10 cents! Remember, if we can raise $200.00, Mrs. Rybarczyk will dye her hair blue! We have $155.80 raised so far! We can still meet our goal with your help!!!
COOKBOOKS ARE STILL ON SALE! We have compiled a cookbook with recipes from St. Bede families! Order forms are below. We have a limited quantity and will be given out first-come, first-serve. They are $20.00 for 1 and $35.00 for 2. Be sure to get yours soon!! They will make a great holiday gift!
If you need a break from cooking, Maravelas has said that they will give any St. Bede family 10% off of their entire bill through the end of December. You just have to let them know you are from St. Bede when you call-in your order! Let’s continue to support our local businesses!

REMOTE LEARNING STUDENT DEVICES
Kindergarten through 4th students have been issued Chromebook devices as well as unique student Google accounts to use for logging into their Chromebook. They have been using their device and account at school for the last couple of months. Their device and charger were sent home and are to be used for remote learning purposes only during the first two weeks of January. Prek-2nd grade lessons will be posted to their https://app.seesaw.me accounts and 3rd-4th grade lessons will be posted to their https://classroom.google.com accounts. Please return the loaner device when school resumes on Tuesday, January 19th.

St. Bede School Spelling Bee
The School Spelling Bee is fast approaching! For the safety of all of the students, we will not be able to participate in the Scripts National Spelling Bee this school year, but we are keeping the Spelling Bee contest tradition here at St. Bede. Two classroom winners from each grade will compete in a virtual School Spelling Bee for the title of St. Bede Spelling Champion. This School Spelling Bee will take place on Wednesday, February 3rd during Catholic Schools' Week. Good luck spellers! Be on the lookout for more information to come...
Faithful citizenship is key. We expect our families to take personal responsibility for the common good as well as their own safety. We rely on parents to keep children home when they are sick. Sometimes it is hard to tell in the morning if a child is truly ill or just having a hard time waking up. Please err on the side of caution during this time. Children should not come to school if they are experiencing any of the following symptoms:
Fever or chills
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Muscle or body aches
New loss of taste or smell
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
It is important that you contact your doctor and follow the advice of a trained medical professional before returning to school. Please do not administer fever-reducing, cough, or stomach settling medicine and send sick students to school. While it may be an unexpected inconvenience for you in the morning, we believe this is a much better alternative than having to close the entire school because of an outbreak. You are instrumental in helping us to control COVID-19. Please let your employer know of our policy in advance. We need your cooperation now more than ever.
Thank you to those families who were extra cautious this week!! Your support means the world to us!
