CLASSROOM GUIDANCE FROM SECOND STEP
Dear Family Members,
Over the course of this school year kindergarten through fifth grade students at Kinsner will be learning about Empathy & Compassion, Skills for Learning, Emotion Management, and Problem Solving using the Second Step curriculum. During the month of October kindergarten through fifth grade students will be learning about anti-bullying and skills for self-management.
The elementary school counseling department is excited to present classroom lessons using the Second Step Program. The information below indicates the monthly themes and monthly objectives for the school year.

October Classroom Lessons
Kindergarten
Our classroom lesson in October will focus on anti-bullying and identifying emotions. Our lessons will focus on how sometimes we feel mad. Students will be able to give at least one reason why they think someone is feeling mad.
First Grade
Our classroom lesson in October will focus on anti-bullying and recognizing distractions. This lesson focuses on how everyone gets distracted sometimes and how to get back on task. Students will learn to be able to suggest behaviors that can help them pay attention when they encounter distractions.
Second Grade
Our classroom lesson in October will focus on anti-bullying and helpful vs. unhelpful thoughts. This lesson focuses on recognizing unhelpful thoughts and working on replacing unhelpful thoughts with helpful thoughts.
Third Grade
Our classroom lesson in October will focus on anti-bullying and practice plans. Our lessons this month will focus on planning for practice. With adult support, students will be able to make a practice plan with a partner.
Fourth Grade
Our classroom lesson in October will focus on anti-bullying and checking our progress when working toward goal setting. Our lessons this month focus on how to be an upstander against bullying, and checking progress. We will focus on being kind and sticking together against bullying.
Fifth Grade
Our classroom lesson in October will focus on anti-bullying and changing a plan. Our lessons will focus on how to be an upstander and evaluating their progress when working toward a personal goal so they can adjust their plan if needed.
