Fork Shoals Library Ledger
News for the week of March 4th
Box Tops have been counted!
The numbers are in, and Fork Shoals School raised more money in our latest Box Tops collection than EVER BEFORE! We collected over 22,000 Box Tops. That means the library will get over $2,200 for new library books! How awesome is that?!
The class that collected the most Box Tops was Mrs. Church’s 5th grade class. They collected around 4,000 Box Tops. (Most of those came from just one student, Kason S.) Congratulations to Kason and Mrs. Church’s class. Ms. Knight is working on a special reward for your efforts.
And thanks to all who collected Box Tops! Keep them coming! Every Box Top you turn in raises ten cents for the library. It may not seem like much, but it really adds up!
Book of the Week: Ten Big Toes and a Prince's Nose by Nancy Gow and Stephen Costanza
Ten Big Toes and a Prince's Nose, written by Nancy Gow and illustrated by Stephen Costanza, is nominated for the 2012-13 South Carolina Picture Book Award.
This book is probably my favorite of this years SCPBA nominees. The story of a young princess with huge feet and a prince with a big nose is awesome for teaching young--and older--readers the value of looking past appearances and seeing a person's inner beauty. (This is definitely a lesson that needs to be taught throughout the school years and beyond.)
The book also shows readers how important it is to accept themselves as they are, even the things they may not really like about themselves. (Again, this is a lesson that everyone could stand to learn.)
Greenville Drive Reading All-Stars
To complete the program, students must read 5 books during the designated 5-week time period. If the students reach their reading goal, they will qualify as a 2013 Greenville Drive Reading All-Star.
The reading program will run for 5 weeks: Wednesday, February 6th until Wednesday, March 13th. Students who complete the program will be honored at Fluor Field before the 7:00 PM Drive game on Monday, April 15th.
Each student who succeeds in reading the designated number of books will be honored at the Monday, April 15th Greenville Drive Celebration Game. The student will receive free admission, recognition on the DriveVision, a parade around the outfield warning track, a chance to throw the First Pitch, and a Greenville Drive Reading All-Stars T-shirt.

PTA Board Nominations
The Nomination Committee is taking nominations for the positions of secretary and treasurer for next school year. Our PTA Board plays an important role in making Fork Shoals a great school. Your input for potential persons to fill these roles is greatly appreciated. Nomination forms can be found on our school website or in the front office.
Spring MAP Testing
Students in grades 2 through 5 will begin MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) testing on March 4th. Classroom teachers will indicate the specific two dates for your child’s class. Please encourage your child to do his/her best as they strive to reach their goal that was set from Fall MAP testing. MAP testing gives teachers an idea of additional skills that students need to develop.
SIC Sponsored Legislative Visit
Eric Bedingfield, District 28 House of Representatives, will be at Fork Shoals on Monday, March 11, at 6:00 PM to share legislative updates in regards to education. Our School Improvement Council invites everyone to this event to know more about education for the state of South Carolina.
