From the Director
Dear CDS Community,
It was a short but busy week at CDS Middle School as Term 3 came to a close. It's hard to believe that March is already here and that Term 4 begins on Monday! I hope all of you are enjoying the warmer weather despite the poor air quality.
We have much to look forward to in Term 4 beginning with our Term 4 assembly this Thursday, and the start of basketball season the week after. Also on the horizon is this year's Experiential Learning trip with Adventure Korea which will take place the last week of April. Teachers are already planning in order to make sure it turns out to be the best trip we've had! More details on this will follow soon.
I hope you've all enjoyed a long and restful weekend!

A Day of Professional Learning for Teachers
KAIAC String Festival CDS MS 2019
The students have worked very diligently throughout the year, and they certainly deserved to participate in the festival. This was a good opportunity to show off all the hard work that they have accomplished. We played three pieces then received a clinic with a string expert for 30 minutes.
Since we performed early in the day, we had the opportunity to listen to orchestras from other schools including GSIS, SIS, and our HS Orchestra. It was great to listen and enjoy pieces that other international schools are performing. The students received a gold rating, which was very deserving! Take a listen to our performance here.

ELA 8 with Mr. Cavasin: Ethos, Logos, Pathos: Talking Sense into Salem Residents in 1692
For their performance task in the 3rd term, the 8th grade ELA classes were asked to create a persuasive piece, using at least 2 of the possible 3 persuasive appeals, as categorized by Aristotle (ethos, logos, pathos), that would effectively convince the people of Salem, Massachusetts in 1692 to immediately stop all activities associated with the witch trials.
This task (product and explanation) was designed to challenge the students in the areas of curiosity, critical and creative thinking, and communication. They really had their work cut out for them and ended up doing great!
