We have had another week with many positive cases and resulting quarantines. We understand the impact this has on our students, staff, and families. We are doing our best to communicate with impacted families as quickly as possible. Sometimes this is through an all-class message using Schoolwise. Some teachers use Class Dojo as well. This allows them to send messages to individual parents or the class as a whole. In order for you to receive this communication, it is imperative that we have current contact information in the office. If you need to make changes, please call (530) 257-5161.

Due to the large number of students wishing to test in order to return from quarantine on Monday, we are asking families to pull up in front of the school and call the office to let us know you are here. We will send a nurse out to your car to provide the test. This will help us keep potential positive cases out of our office area.

We have a limited amount of testing kits still available in our school office for those who are interested. You can also use this link https://special.usps.com/testkits to request testing kits sent to your home. We are here to answer any questions you may have. Our school is a bus stop in the morning for students traveling to Meadow View and Diamond View. We also have 3 buses that arrive each morning transporting our students. The yellow zone in the front of the parking lot is for buses only. If you are dropping off your child in the morning, please do not use the bus lane. In the afternoon, we have two lanes for picking up our first and second grade students. We have a fairly smooth pickup and we are finished most days within 10 minutes! Please be patient as you pick up your child. Thank you for your cooperation.

Each week we will use this section to introduce you to our staff at McKinley. This week we continue to introduce to you our teachers.

This is Ms. Coleman's first year teaching at McKinley. Prior to coming here, Ms. Coleman worked for two years as the Director of the Child Development Center for the Marine Corps in Bridgeport. Before that, she spent eight years working with students for the Army Child Youth Services. She has a Masters Degree in Special Education. Ms. Coleman's favorite subjects to teach are Language Arts and History. She says the best part of teaching second grade is that the kids are such a fun age to be around. Ms. Coleman has five children of her own and grew up in a large family as the second of nine children. Ms. Coleman grew up with learning disabilities and has dyslexia. Three of her children have special needs. She is able to relate to students who are struggling in school. She tells them, "If I can do it, so can you!" We are so grateful to have Ms. Coleman at McKinley!
