Congratulations to Wagner High School junior Trinity Jarrell, who has advanced to the state Visual Arts Scholastic Event.
At the Regional VASE, student artworks were juried by certified, professional Texas Art Education Association jurors. Trinity received a Rating IV for her drawing titled “Father Figure.” According to the TAEA website, a Rating IV is the mark of a superior, exemplary work of art.
Congratulations on advancing to state! The state Visual Arts Scholastic Event will take place virtually on April 23rd and 24th

Hartman Cavaliers Poster Winners
Judson ISD. would like to congratulate Lyric Garcia and Mercy Iliza from Hartman for their hard work and beautiful entries in the 2021 San Antonio Cavalier’s River Parade Poster Contest.
The theme this year was “Reflections 2020”. Students were asked to create an artwork that reflected what they remembered about 2020 and included San Antonio icons and the Fiesta motif. Students worked diligently on their pieces and completed them just in time to enter this year’s contest. All of them did an excellent job!
Last week, the Texas Cavaliers proudly announced that Hartman Elementary had a finalist and alternate finalist in this year’s contest. Lyric Garcia and Mercy lliza are both fifth-grade students at Hartman Elementary, and Dana Yaklin is their super proud art teacher.
As a first-place winner for City Council District 2, Lyric Garcia will receive a check for $3,000, going toward Hartman Elementary’s art program, What-a-Burger for half the year, a Fiesta medal, and a full scholarship to Summer Art Camp at the Southwest School of Art. Mercy will also be receiving a full scholarship for Summer Art Camp. Along with the other contest finalists, Lyric competed for a grand prize that could have earned Hartman an additional $2,000 for a GRAND TOTAL of $5,000!
Mrs. Yaklin, along with Lyric and Mercy and their family members, attended the Texas Cavaliers’ press conference on March 3rd at the Southwest School of Art, where King Antonio recognized all the finalists and announced the 2021 GRAND PRIZE WINNER!
Unfortunately, Hartman’s entries were not selected for the grand prize, but there is always next year! Viva Fiesta!!!
Congratulations and thanks to Mrs. Yaklin for her enthusiastic support of the Texas Cavaliers’ River Parade Art Contest!
