CIS RECEIVES GRANT
Clinton Intermediate School is a 2023 Casey’s Cash for Classrooms grant recipient. The school will receive $6,173 to purchase a climbing wall. This project will enhance the physical education programming and curriculum at CIS.
“Every year when I conduct fitness testing it reveals that students have a difficult time with upper body strength,” says Gina Johannsen, CIS Physical Education teacher. “I have wanted a climbing wall for years, but since they are a large expense I hadn't found a way to obtain one. When Casey's Cash For Classrooms Grant became available I knew I had to try. This will be one more way to include an activity that uses upper body strength in the PE curriculum and will even be an option during indoor recess or extra time in the gym. This is a great addition to Clinton Intermediate School and the district.”
Thank you Casey's for making this possible!
SENIORS GIVE BACK TO COMMUNITY
As our Clinton High School seniors are nearing the end of their time as a student in our district, they recently took a day to give back to the community that has supported them through the years.
Last Friday, seniors participated in the annual Skip2Serve event. Skip2Serve is a joint effort of Bright Futures Clinton and CHS and is a day dedicated to serving others and giving back to the community. Seniors spent their morning at a dozen different service sites and then spent the afternoon at the Benson Center enjoying lunch from the Atomic Hog (courtesy of Compass Health, Hawthorn Bank, Fortress Wealth Management/Insurance, and Bright Futures Clinton) and taking part in fun activities. Students also enjoyed an ice cream sundae bar courtesy of American Family Insurance/Carla Moberly.
Thank you to the many volunteers, organizations, and businesses who came together to make this yearly event possible. A special shout-out to Teresa Howard, CHS School Social Worker and Bright Futures Clinton co-coordinator, for organizing this successful event.

CORSON RECOGNIZED AS PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR FOR CENTRAL REGION
Congratulations to our very own Clinton High School principal, Jenny Corson who was recently named the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals (MoASSP) Central Region High School Principal of the Year.
The Clinton School District was excited to have principals from other area high schools in attendance to surprise Mrs. Corson for her achievement.
Mrs. Corson was one of only a few principals in the state of Missouri to receive this award. Jenny will now compete for the Missouri Principal of the Year.
Mrs. Corson received multiple nominations for this award. In their nomination, a principal from another district wrote, "Jennifer has been a consistent and outstanding administrator in the Central Region for a long time. She is dedicated to not only her students and staff, but the growth of other administrators in our area. She would be an amazing representative of this award for the Central Region."
Congratulations, Jenny! We are so glad to have you as part of our Cardinal team!
A SWEET LESSON
Last week, sixth grade ELA students in Mrs. Mifflin's class prepared for this week's MAP tests with a "sweet" lesson.
Students rotated through different stations as they learned about candy from other nations. While doing this, students practiced paying attention to directions and critical words that can be found in questions on tests.

CLINTON DECA CHAPTER RECOGNIZED FOR OUTSTANDING SCHOOL-BASED ENTERPRISE
The Clinton DECA Chapter recently received Gold-Level Certification for their School-Based Enterprise (SBE), The Nest. Clinton High School was one of only 11 DECA chapters in Missouri to receive this highest certification level.
An SBE is an entrepreneurial operation in a school setting that provides goods and services to meet the needs of the market. SBEs are managed and operated by students as hands-on learning laboratories that integrate National Curriculum Standards in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management.
Clinton High School senior and Clinton DECA president Ellison Sisney played an integral part in the chapter receiving Gold-Level Certification honors this year. Ellison submitted an extensive application and documentation that showcased how CHS’ school-based enterprise, The Nest, provides students the opportunity to apply marketing and retail concepts.
“The Nest means so much to me because I see the positive way it impacts everyone’s day,” says Ellison Sisney. “Being able to dissect everything about The Nest was a journey. It took me more than two months to complete my report, but it was definitely worth it! The Nest receiving a Gold-Level label makes it almost more ‘official’ to me. I’m very thankful for the opportunity to have completed a project that had never been done before at Clinton High School.”
For more than three decades, high school marketing students have had the opportunity to manage and operate The Nest. This school store offers students and staff a variety of food and drinks. Marketing students are responsible for conducting daily business operations, implementing safety and security measures, and providing quality customer service.
The Nest was recognized during DECA’s International Career Development Conference earlier this week in Orlando, FL.
Clinton High School DECA students are led by advisor Jessie Thompson.
LARGENT RECEIVES AWARD
Congratulations to Leslie Largent, Career Services Coordinator at Clinton Technical School, for receiving the 2023 MoACTE (Missouri Association for Career and Technical Education) Counseling and Career Development Professional Award.
This award recognizes school counselors and career development professionals who have demonstrated commitment to connecting students with opportunities for success, shown innovation in career exploration and development, and have advocated for CTE (Career and Technical Education) as a viable option for all students.
Leslie's award has been forwarded to the next level of competition, the ACTE Region III Awards, which could then be followed by National ACTE Awards.
Help us congratulate Leslie on this very well-deserved award!
CECC GARDENING CLUB
The Clinton School District is committed to providing opportunities for students to be involved with peers and adults outside of the traditional school day. One of the ways that CECC is accomplishing this goal is through their after school Gardening Club led by preschool teacher Christy Staashelm.
Now that spring is here, the Gardening Club is in full force! Students have had fun getting their hands dirty in some soil, eating healthy snacks, and even learning about (and touching) earthworms.

IT'S OFFICIAL!
The Clinton High School school farm is officially a farm! These two calves (and their donkey friend) welcomed Agricultural Science students earlier this month.
The school farm sits on 5 acres to the south of the high school. Through this project students will have the opportunity to learn hands-on skills about what it takes to raise and maintain livestock right here at school. While the project is starting small with two calves (generously donated by Jennifer Neill and Matt Schnorf), there are plans for additional livestock including students building an area for chickens with a coop so that they can raise laying chickens and provide the eggs to other programs in the district.
This project would not be possible without the many generous donations the district has received from local businesses, organizations, and individuals, as well as grants to help with the start-up of the farm. For instance, the entire metal fence was donated by Brett Williams. Brett is a 1985 graduate of Clinton High School, and attended the University of Oklahoma, receiving a degree in Civil Engineering. The fence was installed by Smith Fencing.
