Spelling
Spelling Unit 4.2
Nonfiction text features was our skill this week and we will continue next week as well. Text features help the the reader navigate the text and increase comprehension.
Science
This week we used our knowledge fo chemical and physical reactions to clean pennies. We tested pennies in different solutions to see what was most effective.
Social Studies
We are still learning about the American Revolution. We took a closer look the Declaration of Independence. In the up coming weeks we are going to create our "R is fo Revolution" book on Adobe Spark. I am really excited to team up with our GJCS eLearning Coach, Mrs. Mesmer, on this project.
Writing
Since we have worked and worked on compare and contrast writing, this week the students completed a compare and contrast essay all on their own. I incorporated this into our eLearning practice. It was set up similar to iLearn testing which provided a great practice opportunity. Our writing muscles and stamina have improved, but we still have room to grow.
eLearning Practice Week
There will be more information coming from Mrs. Bauer or Dr. Lorey. They will share what an eLearning day would look like for GJCS and some more information about next steps and "what ifs".
Pink Shirt Day
Fifth Graders had the opportunity to design the pink shirt for 2020. All students entered a design and then the whole school voted. Our very own, Miss Kierstin was the winner! Her design will be on all the shirts. Please use the order form to buy a shirt for our anti bullying campaign.
Wednesday, February 26th is
PINK SHIRT DAY!
It’s a campaign to help stop bullying.

To show our support of this campaign
we’re asking our staff and students to
