Panther families,

Please take 5 minutes (or less!) to share your experiences with us, particularly as you consider your family’s start to the school year. You will see this same local survey in both winter and spring so we can track our progress on goals throughout the year, improving as we go. In January 2024, we will be administering the full YouthTruth family survey which is more comprehensive and takes a little more time. Both surveys (PCS local and Youth Truth) are anonymous.

Each week, I will be sending out a question with which you will be given the opportunity to engage in a new conversation with your child. We all know how hard it is to draw out responses other than, "nothing" or "fine" when we ask "What did you do today?" or "How was school?" Be sure to use open ended follow-up questions and statements such as "Tell me more about that!" or "What did you think of that?" Please ask your student(s) the question below, share their response with us and make our day! You can submit more than one response!

Hello Penngrove Families -

Make-up picture day is this Thursday, 9/14. MugsyClicks sent out an email on Saturday to all families which included the access code to view your student(s) photos. Please review your student's photos and decide if you'd like to participate in the retake. There is a $10 fee for retaking photos which will need to be paid by 11:59pm on Wednesday, 9/13 via your MugsyClicks account.

Important: If you did not receive an email from MugsyClicks, please follow these steps:

-Check your spam/junk folder

-Log in to your MugsyClicks Account

-Click "profile"

-Scroll down and make sure under email preferences, the box next to "notification" is selected

Once your notifications are turned back on, go back to the main menu under "My Gallery" and select "Request Code" next to the birdie asking, "Do you need an access code?" Please keep in mind it may take up to a few hours to receive your code.

Submit your #PennPanthers artwork to the office by Friday, November 3rd to be considered for the front or back cover of the 2023/24 yearbook.

Hello Panthers!

We are having a great time up in garden! Our aeroponics system is rolling, we just started a second worm bin with help from our former garden teacher Ms. Barrel, and we are working on our composting system, planting and so much more!! Next week we are studying Equinox - ask your students about it. It is a student favorite!

Volunteer opportunity!! We are re-doing the Second grade quad!! Gina Turner a second grade parent has graciously taken on heading the project and will be doing a workday Monday, September 25th from 9-12. Mrs. Harp is looking for someone to be in charge of our Walk & Roll to School program throughout the year.

The duties of this volunteer would be:

• sending a reminder about walking days (sent to Mrs. Harp, then she'd send out)
• setting up and manning the prize table
• tallying number of walkers 2x per year
• get the monthly challenges out to classes/pop in to share the challenge, the prizes and the due dates
• collect challenges and send in
• the helmet program in December
• walk with groups.

We're so excited to introduce Penngrove Reading Kits this year. This is a fun way to bring new books home to read as a family, support a struggling reader, encourage a love of reading, or just for FUN! If you're curious which kit would be best for your reader, don't hesitate to reach out to their classroom teacher.

Detailed description of these kits are here. Otherwise, feel free to browse the kits in the office or reach out to Mrs. M with any questions at amiljkovic@petk12.org. There are multiple kits at most levels with different titles to keep things interesting :)

Families can check out 2 kits per student at a time and return in 2 weeks.

Combine the two in a unique volunteer opportunity! The Art Docent Program is looking for volunteer docents to teach art in elementary grade classrooms. Absolutely no art experience is necessary- all you need is a love of art and the desire to bring art into children’s lives. Volunteer time is flexible and training time is minimal.

We will be having a few MANDATORY Informational meetings for all interested people:

When: Wednesday, 9/13 @ 9 a.m OR 9/14 @ 9 a.m..

Where: McDowell Elementary (room A2) 421 South McDowell Blvd.

AOL/Webelos Scouts and their Dens*

Please join Troop 7, 7G for a weekend of fun on the lake at Island View campsite. We’ll teach your Scouts how to canoe, cook, and other scout skills while showing them how the Scouts BSA program operates. They’ll make new friends and have a blast! Food will be provided. There is no cost for this outing. Be there!!!
