Winter Clothing
STRONG RECOMMENDATION - Students should have their coat and mittens washed at least every other weekend. With the young age of our students, it is very common for them wipe their nose on their gloves or coat. Consistent washing of these items will cut down on germs in the building. Now is a good time to clean out those backpacks too.
Cold Weather Policy
ALSO - Students are NOT allowed to stay inside more than one day without a note from the Dr stating they need to be inside. Students are outside for less than 15 minutes at a time. If a child is too sick to go outside for recess, they are too sick to be in school and should be kept home.
SICKNESS AT SCHOOL
Preschool Families - Please keep your child home if they are coughing or have a very snotty, runny nose. At this young age students are not able to practice many personal hygiene actions (coughing into their elbow, washing hands thoroughly, blowing their nose into a tissue, etc.) needed to be in a classroom full of young children who touch everything. Germs are continuously being spread from child to child because students are coming to school with too many ongoing cold/flu symptoms. Preschool is not mandatory for children so truancy is never an issue for too many missed days.
Medications at School
Prescription medications: Prescription medications must be accompanied by a Medication Administration Form with the doctor's signature included. These forms may be found on the District's web site (www.waylandunion.org) under the Parent Quick Links section. Medication will not be administered without this form on file. Also - if your child needs to take a medication thee times a day, we recommend before school, after school and before bed. Sending medication to and from school on a daily basis is NOT the best schedule, especially if the medicine needs to be refrigerated.
Over the Counter medications: Over the counter medications must be accompanied by the Medication Administration Form and signed by the parent. DO NOT send medication to school in a child's backpack. Any and all medication MUST be brought to the school office by a parent and we must have the original container (no plastic baggies)
EXTRA CLOTHES IN THE BACKPACKS
Also - many of our students do have an extra change of clothes in their backpacks, however, they still have summer clothing from the start of school. Take a look this weekend and change out those shorts for long pants!
And as always - if you have any clothing that your child has outgrown, consider donating any pants and underwear to Baker Elementary. This is greatly appreciated. Size 5 - size 12. No shirts are needed at this time.
Hand2Hand & WEPA Food Drive - November 7 through 15
1st Grade Students Only
The fun: We want you to come with your child, enjoy a doughnut hole and a bottle of water, and take a few laps around our 1/18th mile track.
Along the way: Talk with your student about a topic of THEIR interest (we'll have a few ideas for you). Enjoy the outdoors and get those minds and bodies going. We want our students to walk the track (no running) with a significant adult and spend a bit of time in conversation (this is very important for children).
- Children: MUST be accompanied by an adult.
- This event is for 1st Grade students ONLY. This is a special time for these students to spend 1-to-1 time with an important adult in their life.
- Doughnut holes and water: Provided by WEPA
- Treats and walking: from 8:30-8:50
- Enter the playground area through the east gate and walk to the track
- Finish at 8:50. Students will enter the building through the side door and wait for school to start in the hallway.
*FYI - Baker Elementary houses 10 classes of preschool, 4 classes of Y5s, 7 classes of Kindergarten and 5 classes of 1st grade. We have a total of over 400 kids every day at Baker Elementary. To keep our special events safe and manageable, we must divide our students up by grade level to help accommodate all potential visitors to our building.
