2021-22 Semester One Honor Roll
Winter Break Office Hours
All SMCS students are off Friday, February 18 and Monday, February 21. The high school office and business office will be closed on Friday due to staff development meetings and on Monday for the break. Both offices will open as usual on Tuesday, February 22 when school resumes.
Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences
Spring Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences will be held on Wednesday, March 16 in the SMCHS Commons, from 3:45-6:30pm. Parents and students are invited to meet with teachers to discuss grades and other classroom concerns. Appointments are not needed. The conferences are set up “cafeteria style,” where teachers are set up at tables in the Commons and parents and students meet with them as they are available. We look forward to seeing you there!
If preferred, virtual conferences will be offered between 8:00am and 10:00am on Friday, March 18. Please email Sue Thelen with the name of the teacher(s) you wish to schedule a virtual conference with.
If you would like to contribute to a meal for the teachers on conference day, please send in your donation to the school office in an envelope marked "Conference Meal Donation" by Monday, March 14.
Jason Evert Presentation on February 23
Jason Evert, a Catholic author and chastity speaker, will present to our students on Wednesday, February 23. A presentation to seniors will take place from 12:30-1:00pm and a presentation to grades 9-11 will be from 1:15pm-2:30pm. There will be a special bell schedule for the day that the students will receive via email. For more information, please visit https://chastity.com.
Work Permits

The Forensics Team for a great home competition this week. The entire team is now eligible for District competition, which is the first step to qualify for State!
The SMC Mock Trial Team on their 4th place finish in the Wisconsin State Bar Regional tournament over last weekend.
Maria Argueta for winning first place in the Americanism Essay Contest. Her essay was chosen from almost 200 entries from over 30 schools in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois. Her entry now advances to the regional competition.
Winter Sports Update
The Girls Basketball Team earn the Big East Conference Championship and are currently 22-1 overall and 17-1 in conference play. Their last game is on Thursday (2/17) against Hilbert It is Senior Night. The team received the 1st seed in their half of the WIAA Sectional and will host the winner of Algoma/Manawa on Friday, February 25th at 7:00pm in the WIAA Regional Semi-Final. The Boys Basketball Team is currently 13-8 overall and 10-6 in conference play (3rd place). They play at home on Friday (2/18 Senior Night) against Reedsville and finish out the regular season next Thursday(2/24) at Hilbert. The Powerlifting Team will hosting a meet at Limitless (3003 W Prospect Ave, Appleton) on Saturday (2/19) beginning at 8:00am. The following lifters have qualified for the State meet:
Gabby Ruback, Emiliano Romero, Grant Hansen, Connor Riehl, Sam Todd, Erika Stencil, Paul Kundert and Luke Steffen. The team is hoping to add more to the list after the meet on Saturday.
The Dance Team will perform on Friday (2/18) at halftime of the boys basketball game.
The Fox Cities Stars Boys Hockey Team (SMC co-op team) lost in the WIAA Regionals last night to Fond du Lac. Their season is now over.
2022-2023 SMCS Registration
Current SMCS students will be automatically enrolled for 2022-23. If your child(ren) currently attends SMCS and will return next year, you do not need to do anything for registration. If your child(ren) will not return to SMCS for the 2022-23 school year, please contact Martha Barraza by March 31, if possible. Please reach out if you are still in the decision-making process for 2022-23.

Zephyrs Gold Raffle Tickets
Each family was given an envelope containing eight Zephyrs Gold Raffle Tickets. The tickets can be purchased by you or sold. The $200 returned with ticket stubs will satisfy the required fundraising fee. This is the only fundraiser that offsets the fundraising fee applied to our K-12 families tuition bill. The raffle tickets offer chances to win up to $2,000! in cash! All stubs, money and unused tickets must be returned to the school office by February 25. Please email Chris Decker with questions.
SMCS Ski Club
SMCS has partnered with Nordic Mountain to create one registration link for all five of our campuses to downhill ski and snowboard together. Transportation is not provided for these trips. Skiers and snowboarders will get a RFID lift ticket card that can be reloaded for each visit. There are a few dates in February and March left. Use this link: SMCS Group Ski Dates

ACT Reminders
Parents of students taking the ACT test on Tuesday, March 8 received an email with testing instructions. Please be sure your child is not scheduled for any appointments until after 1:30pm that day.
Bellin Summer Nursing Camps
Bellin College is accepting applications for their summer Nursing and Medical Imaging camps. Current sophomores and juniors may apply online at https://www.bellincollege.edu/admissions/visit/summer-camps/. Space is limited so apply early!
University of Notre Dame Pre-College Programs
Applications for Summer Scholars and Summer Scholars Online are due February 21.
Badger Precollege & Summer Music Programs
UW Madison offers Badger Precollege programs and Summer Music Clinics for students completing grades 9-12. Program registration closes April 30.
Washington University
Washington University in St. Louis has extended their test optional policy for students entering this fall. They also have a wide variety of precollege programs available this summer.
Grade 10 Career Expo on March 9
Please make sure the permission slip for the Future Fox Cities Career Expo is turned in by Friday, February 25.
Grade 11 ACT Test March 8
Juniors who have pre-registered will be taking the ACT test at the Boys & Girls Club of Menasha on Tuesday, March 8. Details will be sent to students who will be testing that day and their parents/guardians.
K-12 Scholarships for Music/Art Lessons
The Les and Dar Stumpf Youth Arts Scholarship provides financial assistance to students interested in an art discipline. Applications are due April 1. Click here for details.
Wisconsin High School Business Model Competition

Wyoming Catholic College Reception
Join Bishop Ricken and Dr. Glenn Arbery for “Greatness in the Rough: Rediscovering Classical Heroism” on Friday, February 18 from 6-9pm at The Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help as they explore the ancient virtues of classical heroism and discuss their relevance to our modern society. Marian University Learn While You Earn
Students in grades 9-12 are invited to attend VIRTUAL pre-college courses to learn more about specific careers while earning college credit. Cost is $50 per course; 1 credit earned per course (on a Marian, or other college, transcript only). Participants will receive a $500 scholarship to Marian for each course completed. Xavier High School - In-person college fair at Xavier High School on Tuesday, March 8 from 6pm - 8:30pm.
National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) is hosting virtual college fairs February 24 (STEM), April 3, April 12, and April 26.
NWTC Engineering Open House
On February 22 from 4pm–7pm, Northeast Wisconsin technical College is hosting their Engineering Open House featuring 17+ career choices related to Engineering degrees, employers that hire engineering/technology graduates, demonstrations and other colleges and transfer options. Tech Savvy for 9th Grade Girls
Tech Savvy is a one-day conference on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at UWO Fox Cities, designed to give sixth to ninth grade girls and their parents an opportunity to experience firsthand how science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields can lead to exciting careers. Law Enforcement Career Academy
Current juniors or seniors who are interested in a career in law enforcement related career may apply for the Wisconsin American Legion Law Enforcement Career Academy (WALLECA). This is a 6-day program held at the Wisconsin State Patrol academy at Ft. McCoy July 24 – 29, 2022. There is no cost to students to attend. Apply here by March 25, 2022.
FABTECH Open House
FABTECH is an affordably priced, accredited technical diploma series of courses which are focused on developing entry-level technicians in the construction equipment, engine, and electric power-generation fields. They are hosting an open house on Thursday, February 24 from 9am – 3pm. Register here.
FREE FAFSA Thursdays at FVTC
Students and their parents can receive help completing the 2021-22 and 2022-23 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at the Appleton FVTC Campus in room G149. Drop in sessions are on Thursdays from 9:30am-10:30am, 11:30am-12:30pm, 2:30pm-3:30pm and 4:30pm-6:00 pm.
ZAPS ACT Test Prep
