The 22-23 CST Family

Big picture

Students Return Tuesday, March 21st!

Week of 3/20

Dear CST Family,

Welcome back! I hope your spring break was a good one for you and your family. I'm excited to be coming back for the spring quarter of the school year. Track season is underway and we're a couple weeks from our first meet. The spring play is less than two weeks away and I know for many of our students, their outside commitments will really begin picking up as well (baseball, softball, soccer, etc.).

As we return, CST staff, including admin, will take some time to review building and classroom expectations, goals for the quarter, and otherwise assist in a refocusing coming off of spring break. As we embrace all the 4th quarter has to offer, we will do all we can to help our students balance the fun and excitement of "big" events while still managing their day-to-day responsibilities in the classroom.

Let's make it a great quarter!

School Attire Reminders

(Added after original email notification--repeated from 8/13/2022 weekly)

All students are to dress properly for attendance at school and at school functions. Students are representatives of their school and their dress and manner should be above reproach. Coats and hats are to be left in students’ lockers. Students must wear shoes at all times. Costume-type dress is not permitted unless a special day has been designated. Students must have some part of their shirt/top which goes over the shoulders. Students who are not properly dressed or their dress is deemed disruptive to the educational process will be requested to correct their clothing. If they do not have a change of clothes, items will be provided through the nurse’s office.

These items are not considered appropriate for school:

  • obscene or suggestive phrases or pictures on clothing;
  • Revealing or provocative clothing, including short shorts or which show bare midriffs or have plunging necklines
  • clothing which does not cover undergarments
  • phrases or pictures on clothing which refer to alcohol, smoking, drugs, or provocative brands
  • hats; bandannas; sunglasses;
  • anything representing gang “colors” or gang affiliation;
  • chains or studded bands
  • pajama pants; sagging pants; pants with excessive tears/holes
  • clothing deemed inappropriate by school administration, school staff, district staff, or clothing which is a threat to the order or safety of the school or students; clothing in violation of school board policy.

At Chisholm Trail, the dress code is intended to insure that students dress tastefully and appropriately for the school setting. We ask students to remember that clothing for school and clothing for recreational activities may NOT be the same. School clothes need to reflect that the child is at school to attend to the business of learning. Specific guideline questions may be directed to the building administration.

The link below is intended to be completed by all future Olathe South students. The QR was not accessible during transition day and is helpful for Olathe South administration and counselors to be completed. Please feel free to forward to your child or complete on their behalf.

KTOY and ESU Master Teacher

Mrs. Lockard and Mrs. Williams were nominated by their peers to represent CST for the Kansas Teacher of the Year Award (Lockard) and ESU Master Teacher of the Year (Williams). Mrs. Lockard teaches 8th grade ELA and Mrs. Williams 6th grade science. Both are big contributors to CST both in their own classroom and as leaders in the building. Mrs. Lockard is BLT (build leadership team) co-chair and helps lead our CST ROCS program. Mrs. Williams is CST's science lead teacher, BLT member, and also helps lead CST's ROCS program. Of course, for those who have or have had either of these teachers, they know how wonderful they both are. Congratulations to Mrs. Lockard and Mrs. Williams!

CST 5th Grade Parent Night

How does addiction work?

The video below was shared at the Alcohol to Fentanyl presentation Tuesday (1/10). It's a 5 minute video and one you may find helpful with your own kids.

Traffic Reminders

With colder weather we have less walkers/bikers and more vehicle traffic. Please plan accordingly and allow extra time for morning drop-off. Your child should have their items readily available and conversations finished prior to stopping so exiting the vehicle can be as efficient as possible. This helps the line not back up and maintains a constant flow of traffic. A few other reminders to assist with safety and efficiency...

  • Those dropping in the front of the school may pass vehicles in the activity drop-off on the left
  • If dropping off at the activity entrance, please do not pass others who are dropping off at the activity entrance to then merge back into the same activity drop-off lane--this creates a safety issue
  • Form 2 lines for afternoon pick-up--students may cross at the front cross walk with CST staff only...do not encourage your child to run across traffic or parking lot.

Reminders for Walkers and Bike Riders

Please help us reinforce with students the best sidewalks to use upon arrival for walkers/bike riders (seen with the purple arrows on the map below).

  • Students from east of Mur-Len should cross at the 159th/Mur-Len light and walk/ride toward the football field. They will avoid having to cross all vehicle traffic in the parking lot by doing this.
  • Students coming from Lindenwood should take a left upon reaching the CST property and use the sidewalk next to our open field on the west. They should not cross exiting traffic onto 159th from the CST parking lot.
  • A new bike rack was placed at the doors west of the front entrance.
  • Students should exit the building using the same routes. PLEASE talk with students about crossing 159th at the light/cross walk...for their own safety, they should not cross 159th at any other location.

Thank you for your support as we promote safety and efficiency.

Chisholm Trail is launching its new PBIS program this year. PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports. All Olathe middle schools will eventually have a program.
