What's Going On In The World of Thunderbirds
Read Aloud
Dear Parent, Is your family a Read Aloud family yet? We hope you have made reading aloud to your child for at least 15 minutes every day part of your routine. Reading aloud to your child is the single most important thing you can do to prepare your child for lifelong learning success. Every time you read to your child you are improving their learning advantage. Some children begin kindergarten having been read to at home as few as 25 hours while some have been read to as much as 1,000 hours. Children who start behind usually don’t catch up and are at greatest risk for reading delays and school failure.
One Team - One Dream
Teamwork is generally understood as the willingness of a group of people to work together to achieve a common aim. Each team member has to do their part in creating a masterpiece. Every person! All of the teachers, staff, parents, and students are important members of the team. Together we will realize our dream!
MISSION:
- Ensure each learner is future-ready by providing empowering, educational experiences.
VISION:
- We aspire to be a distinguished, educational community that is the district of choice.
COLLECTIVE COMMITMENTS:
- We will be a positive, open-minded, contributing member of our collaborative team.
- We will seek out the most promising practices to support the whole child.
- We will utilize a variety of purposeful, instructional strategies to promote success for all students.
- We will develop, implement, monitor, and improve our professional practices.
GOALS:
- To improve each student’s achievement in language arts in each grade level as measured by performance on local, district, state, and national assessments.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS
DID YOU KNOW?
- Starting in kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
- Missing 10 percent (or about 18 days) can make it harder to learn to read.
- Students can still fall behind if they miss just a day or two days every few weeks.
- Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
- Absences can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up.
WHAT YOU CAN DO •
- Set a regular bed time and morning routine.
- Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
- Find out what day school starts and make sure your child has the required shots.
- Introduce your child to her teachers and classmates before school starts to help her transition.
- Don’t let your child stay home unless she is truly sick. Keep in mind complaints of a stomach ache or headache can be a sign of anxiety and not a reason to stay home.
- If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors, or other parents for advice on how to make her feel comfortable and excited about learning.
- Develop back-up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor, or another parent.
- Avoid medical appointments and extended trips when school is in session.

Transportation Changes
All transportation requests or changes must be done prior to 1:30 p.m. Transportation
notes are given to the classroom teachers at 1:30 p.m.
Changing the note after they have gone to the teachers/classrooms is very confusing for
the teachers and students. We want to make sure your student gets home safely to the
appropriate destination. Please help us with this. If you know ahead of time what the
changes will be, please send a note with your child to school.
