The Mustang Minute
June 4, 2022 - Issue 36
Busy til the End!
Fabulous Friday!
We certainly packed plenty into a four day week! From sprit days to concerts and giant Globes there was a little bit of everything at CMS this week!
Giant Inflatable Globe
Our 7th grade students got to explore a giant map of the US and a blow up of the Globe on Friday. They learned about geography and how maps work in a truly hands-on experience! One wonderful surprise was that every group I saw asked where is Sierra Leone - the home country of our dear Jibba Sesay, who we lost this week. A standing testament to the impact that he had on our students.
Big East Competition
We also had a extra hundred or so students in and out of the building on Friday. For the Big East Musical competition. I have not yet heard the results but everyone that participated also got to go to Six Flags after their performance - which seem like a win for everyone!
Thank You
I want to thank our community for the support they have shown this week in light of the death of Jibba Sesay. He was truly a beloved member of the community and a beautiful soul. Your heartfelt words have meant so much. Losing a teacher is losing a member of our CMS family and your support has been appreciated.
Spirit Day Thursday!

Wellesley Survey
Important Information about the Research Study Things you should know:
- Your child is invited to participate in an ongoing research study.
- The purpose of the study is to learn more about how social media use among young teens supports or harms them in their learning and healthy development. ha If your child agrees to take part in this study, they will participate in a 30-40-minute online survey. The survey will ask about social media use (or non-use), and family involvement in it.
- We hope that involvement in the study will advance the understanding of social media use among young teens, the social context around social media use, and its relation to students’ health and behaviors.
- Taking part in this research project is voluntary. Students can opt out at any time. Whether a student participates in this study has no effect on their academic standing.
Records Transfer
Any students transferring to another school district, attending a private school or another high school other than Norwood High, please make sure to contact your child's guidance counselor before the end of the year. Attached is the release form that must be filled out in order to ensure that your child's new school receives the pertinent school information (Transcripts, attendance, testing results, health record, discipline, etc.).

Cyber Series
Having trouble disconnecting your teen from games? (Me Too!!) Here is a helpful flowchart to manage that conversation - it may take several (okay, a lot) of repeats of the conversation, but it can get better!!

Absence, Tardy, Dismissal Process
Absence Process
As we head into the winter season, I wanted to clarify how to call your child in for an Absence, tardy, or for dismissal. I will also leave this info at the bottom of all future newsletters for easy referral.
If you need to call your child in absent or tardy, please call the student absent line: 781-762-7880 and press #1. Please state your child's first and last name, the date, and the reason for the absence/tardy (sick, appointment, etc)
If your child needs to be dismissed, have your child bring a note from you to school, come to the main office in the morning and fill out a dismissal slip.
