The Wonderful World of Woodbury
November 2020
Parent-Teacher conferences are November 23rd and 24th and will be held virtually. We look forward to partnering with your child in their education. Conferences may look and feel a little different this year, but the teachers are looking forward to this valuable time together. You should have already received information on how to sign up for a conference time. If you have any questions, please contact your student's teacher.
Conferences provide an excellent opportunity for everyone, parents and teachers, to learn more about each individual student and in these times, those conversations become invaluable to us. The key to a successful school conference, parents and teachers agree, is two-way communication. By exchanging information, parents/guardians and teachers can support one another in order to make the best decisions for each of our students.
We will be celebrating Veteran's Day a little bit differently this year, with students participating in activities with their classroom teacher both virtually and in person. We will miss our traditional honorary assembly and the wonderful music of our high school band. We still feel it's important to keep intact a meaningful day to honor those who have served. Thank you to those who have shared pictures of your beloved veterans.
While these are hard times, we want to say we whole-heartedly appreciate the support we continue to receive from our families. We are proud of our students and our diligence in keeping our students safe. Please continue to stay home if you are not feeling well, to certify your student(s) each morning, and communicate with us when your child is ill or if they have been exposed to someone who is ill.
Thanks for helping us keep rowing in these rough waters.
All the best,
Mrs. Kern

Newest Guidance from IDPH
Sandwich CUSD #430 is following the most recent guidance from the IDPH when deciding if a student needs to be sent home from school. Students will be sent home or denied entry to school if ANY of the following symptoms are present: Fever (100.4°F or higher), new onset of moderate to severe headache, shortness of breath, new cough, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain from unknown cause, new congestion/runny nose, new loss of sense of taste or smell, nausea, fatigue from unknown cause, muscle or body aches. Health Plans
Health plans for certain medical conditions (ex: asthma, diabetes, seizures, food allergies, etc.) need to be updated every school year. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school nurse. REMINDER: Students who require an inhaler at school should also have a spacer/chamber available to be used with the inhaler.
Eye Exam
All Kindergarteners and any student attending school in Illinois for the first time are required to submit a State of Illinois Eye Exam or Waiver by October 15, 2020.
Inclement Weather
Winter weather is approaching. We have been blessed with some wonderful and warm fall days into November. It is important that children are dressed properly to go outside for recess. When the wind chill is 10 degrees or higher, we will be going outside for recess. It is important that our children have the ability to run around and get some exercise. Weather will be checked prior to each recess to verify the wind chill.
In addition, the district website (www.sandwich430.org) will contain information regarding school closings. If a school is closed for an emergency during the day, parents will be notified by a School Messenger phone call. Please be sure you have discussed a plan with your child in case of an early dismissal.
