Our Path Note Topic
Last week we had our first ever Elementary Career Day at Otterbein Community Park. We received many positive comments from students, staff, parents, and presenters. The event was for our students in grades three through five. Presenters from all six of our career clusters developed hands on activities for our students to interact with. The activities were designed to help students discover their talents, abilities, and interests. At the elementary level the goal is awareness. Students don’t have to know their future career at this stage, rather what gifts and talents they possess. Our careers committee sent out a survey this week looking for improvements as we plan future activities. The current plan is to alternate each year between elementary and secondary. Next year our focus will shift to secondary.
On another note, our K-2 career days began this week. Each career day will occur at the individual buildings and includes 18 stations with activities covering the six personality types in John Holland’s career theory. Again, this event is focused on students using their imagination and investigation skills to discover their interests and abilities. The first event took place at Fairview Elementary and as a result some teachers are already beginning to incorporate their student’s interests and abilities into hands on learning experiences.

Piece of the Puzzle
This Week's Piece of the Puzzle is Eric Holtzman. Eric and another person came to the rescue of an senior couple whose car would not start after attending a community concert. Eric helped jump the battery to restart the couple's car, and helped them get on their way.
Join us in congratulating Eric for being this week's Piece of the Puzzle.

This week, the elementary schools will be experiencing a Career Day. Teachers, if you do a follow-up lesson or activity related to what your learners did or learned during Career Day, let me know by next Tuesday, April 5th.
Challenge Answer
As long as the board has a quorum, it only takes five yeas to approve a school year budget.
