A NOTE FROM PRINCIPAL SCRIVO
The world is facing the greatest rate of extinction since we lost the dinosaurs more than 60 million years ago. That's why this Earth Day, April 22, 2019, is focused on protecting our threatened and endangered species. In honor of Earth Day and our Evergreen School Award, Scotch School will be holding Earth Day Week! Please see below for the schedule.
It’s that time of year again when the weather will be ever changing. Please send your student/s to school prepared and dressed for all types of weather. You may want to send your student with rain boots and a change of clothes if you think they may be unable to stay away from the puddles.
School will not be in session tomorrow, Friday, April 18th. On behalf of the Scotch Staff and myself we would like to wish you all a wonderful and relaxing three-day weekend.
Scotch Elementary School 2018 - 2019 School Improvement Goals:
- 60% of students will meet or exceed their projected growth in reading and math based on NWEA MAP by June 20, 2019
- 90% of students will be proficient in informational writing.
- 100% of staff and students will implement and carry out Capturing Kids' Hearts with consistency and fidelity.
**IMPORTANT DATES FOR M-STEP TESTING**
Michigan's Statewide Assessment is called M-STEP which stands for the Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress. The M-STEP will be administered to our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students in the spring. You can assist us during this testing window by reducing absences, reinforcing good sleeping and eating habits, and encouraging your student(s) to do their best. The testing windows are listed below.

SCOTCH SCHOOL GOES GREEN
Congratulations! SCOTCH SCHOOL WAS NAMED A MICHIGAN EVERGREEN SCHOOL! Scotch School has earned the designation of EVERGREEN for the 2017-18 and again for the 2018 - 2019 program year. This is the fourth year in a row that Scotch has been recognized for protecting the environment!
We earned points in various categories such as recycling, environmental protection, and energy conservation. Thank you to all the students, families, and staff who supported this endeavor by encouraging trash-free lunches, plastic and paper recycling at school, and environmental awareness for our students.
TRASHLESS TUESDAY
Thank you for helping us with our initiative to have “Trashless Tuesdays.” Please help us to keep them going for the rest of the school year, day in and day out!
Did you know that waste-free lunches benefit more than just our environment? The average child produces between 45-90 lbs. of lunch trash during a school year. Purchasing food in bulk and portioning it into reusable containers is less expensive than purchasing pre-packaged foods. Waste-free lunches tend to be healthier because packaged foods are thought to be higher in fat, sodium, and empty calories.
Call the Scotch Safeline at 248-865-3282 by 9:30AM if you know that your child will be late or absent from school. If you have not called the safeline by 9:30AM, you will be automatically notified via phone/email that your student is absent from school. Your student's absence will be unexcused unless we receive a phone call within 24 hours.
