SPRING BREAK ~ 3/26-3/30 ~ SCHOOLS CLOSED
Leverty Letter
Student initiative and a desire to follow one’s passion are essential character traits that allow children to excel. We all have passions in our lives, whether it be art, sports, reading, robotics, whatever the interests, it is so important that we create opportunities for children to explore their passion. Encouraging students to learn and adapt new information to their life is what educators do each day, and at Montclair it is paying off. Our students are excited about the world around them.
This week we celebrate some achievements in following our passions and recognizing our accomplishments. Our passionate readers participating in the OBOB (Oregon Battle of the Books) competition wrapped up their Montclair matches and sent the HIIS team to regionals (Hayden, Ian, Ike, Sam with Payton as an alternate). Students from Mrs. Meyer’s class represented Montclair at the annual BSD Innovation Expo. These six brave kindergartners were some of the only kindergartners competing, as they showcased their expertise with Cubetto. Polar Night was the theme for the 1st grade annual performance, and students led with their passion in selecting a particular mammal from the polar region. These excited first graders could explain not only what they learned about their animal of interest, but sang their hearts out about the polar ecosystem. Additionally, while there were many opportunities for students to delve into their interests and passions, the 4th graders have been perfecting their opinion writing pieces this week. Students were tasked with crafting a passionate plea in order to bring attention to their soapbox issue, and they learned a little about how to sell their message.
Oprah Winfrey suggests that people, “feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you!” Here at Montclair we will continue to tap the passions of our aspiring students, and encourage them to use that “power” to soar.
