Thesis
Sharon Creech uses examples of foreshadowing to hint future events in the novel Walk Two Moons such as Mike is Mrs. Winterbottom's son, Sal's Mom dying in a bus accident, and Grams death.
Support 1: Mike is Mrs. Wintebottom's son
The first example of foreshadowing that Sharon Creech uses in the book Walk Two Moons is how Mike Bickle is Mrs. Winterbottoms son. On p.193 Mrs. Partridge says, '"Oh Phoebe I think I met your brother he seems nice..."' Although Phoebe and Sal think that Mrs. Partridge is crazy, this quote proves a method of foreshadowing that Sharon Creech uses to hint that event later in the novel. Another example that she uses is on p.43 "The young man said," '"I want to see Mrs. Winterbottom'" ''His Hair was curly and mussed and he had pink circles on his cheeks." Although Phoebe does not know who this man is she know he has some sort of relationship with her mom.
Support 2: Sal's Mom Dies In A Bus Accident
The second example of foreshadowing that Sharon Creech uses is how Sal's mom is already dead in Lewiston Idaho. On p.5 It says, "Gram and Gramps wanted to see momma resting peacefully in Idaho." The message hints that Sal's mom is dead in Idaho. Another example of foreshadowing that she uses is on p.13 '" I Salamanca Tree Hiddle am a afraid of many things, for example I was terrified of car accidents..."' That shows that something must have happened somewhere in her life time that made her scared of car accidents.
Support 3: Grams Death
The third example of foreshadowing that Sharon Creech uses is Gram's death. The first piece of evidence that shows it is on p.222 Gram does not sleep all night '" No"' she said,'"I did not feel like sleeping I'll sleep later."' That proves that gram did not want to sleep yet because she knows she is going to die soon and she wants to enjoy life while it lasts. The second piece of evidence is on p.252 Gram still refuses to get rest. '"Oh no,"' she said '"I'd like to sleep in Coeur d'Alene Tonight."' Gram says this because she knows she is going to die that night and she want to see as much as she can before she dies.
Conclusion
In this novel Sharon Creech uses foreshadowing to hint future events such as Mike is Mrs. Winterbottom's son, Sal's mom dying in a bus accident, and Grams death. The evidence that support these claims prove foreshadowing in the story Walk Two Moons By: Sharon Creech.
