Attention all 6th grade science fair participants.

Just a reminder that your projects will be due in the library this Thursday, January 16. Please plan on taking them home on Friday, January 17. See Mrs. Barrett in room 412 if you have any questions.

Spelling Bee Results!

Congratulations to all of our Spelling Bee participants who spelled their hearts out for over two hours last night. All students were enthusiastic and exhibited unbelievable talent and nerves of steel! The top three spellers will move onto the District Spelling Bee on January 31. Our winners this year are Shivani Nathan in 1st place, Claire Ling and Charvi Neelegowda who tied for 2nd place. We are proud to have them represent Rice Middle School at the district level!

Interested in entering the PACE program in the Fall?

PACE spring testing will take place next month for those wishing to join our program. Referral application packets are now available! Pick up an information sheet with directions for applying online - they're in the wall receptacle in the main hall of the 8th grade area. The deadline for referral completion is January 17th, so don't delay!

Attention all Movie Club Members

We will have a meeting on Thursday of this week. This will be after school from 3:30 to 4:30, in Sra. Martinez's room, and we will film parts of EcoVideo. Please be fully memorized and we hope to see our actors and film crew there. Thank you!

Card Club this Friday

Attention ALL students:
Please join us for Card Club this Friday, January 17, in Mrs. Silva's room, 916!
You can play with Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, Magic, or regular playing cards. Come join the fun and bring your cards this Friday from 3:30-4:15 in room 916. See you there!

Rubik's Cube Club

Red Cross Club

The Red Cross Club will have its next meeting Wednesday January 22nd in Mr. Dyer's room, 816, at 7:50. New members are always welcome!

American Mathematics Competition

The Math Department will host the AMC 10B on Wednesday, February 5, from 4:45-5:15 PM. The American Mathematics Competition is a very challenging 25 problem test in 75 minutes. Please use the Google Classroom code he2okg7 for more information and a signup form. Deadline is Friday, January 24. Please see Mrs. Coveney or Mrs. Liu if you have any questions.

Plano ISD 2020-2021 Academic Calendar Approved

Plano ISD’s school calendar for 2020-2021 has been approved and includes two fewer school days for students and teachers, as well as an additional five minutes added at the beginning of the school day for early childhood, elementary and middle schools. School hours for high and senior high schools remain unchanged.

Other calendar features include a Wednesday, August 12, 2020 start date and a Thursday, May 27, 2021 end date, a full week off for Thanksgiving and spring break is slated for March 8-12, 2021.

Bell schedules for all campuses are as follows:

· Early Childhood Schools: Beaty, Isaacs and Pearson
7:55 a.m. - 3 p.m.

· Head Start
7:55 a.m. - 3 p.m.

· Elementary Schools (grades pk/k–5)
7:40 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

· Middle Schools (grades 6-8)
8:25 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

· High/Senior High Schools (grades 9-12)
9:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

· Academy High School
9:20 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

· Health Sciences Academy and IB World School
9:00 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.

· Special Programs
Elementary (grades K–5): 7:40 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
Middle (grades 6–8); 8:25 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
