Yearbook Applications

Do you want to take part in creating the next yearbook for Rice? If so, pick up an application outside Ms. Marcus room 728. All yearbook applications are due next Friday March 6 by 4:30pm to Ms. Marcus in room 728

Mathematics Competition

The following students have qualified to participate in the American Invitational Mathematics Competition on March 11: Alex Zheng, Aaron Zhou, Ethan Hao, and Andrew Yu. The American Mathematics Competitions are a series of examinations that build problem-solving skills and mathematical knowledge in middle and high school students. These students scored in the top 2.5%. Please wish them good luck!

Attention All Movie Club Members

The cast list, script, outreach method, and scenes have been finalized. This means that we will start filming soon. All cast members have to check the list and memorize their lines. They will have until March 16th to do so. If everyone is not FULLY MEMORIZED by this date, the movie will be abandoned and the club will be closed down. We will meet after March 16th to film. Thank you!

Congratulations to our 7th and 8th grade choirs!!

All of our choirs competed in the UIL Concert and Sight-reading Contest this week. EVERY choir earned PERFECT scores from every judge and received a Sweepstakes Trophy. We are so proud of our choir students and the way that they represented Rice!!

Whiz Quiz

Congratulations to our amazing Rice Middle School Whiz Quiz teams! We had tough competition Wedmesday night at the district championship competition. Our 6th grade team lost a close match to Schimelpfenig to come in 2nd place in the district. Our 8th grade team however, defeated Renner to take the 1st place trophy as district champions! It was a great night for RMS Whiz Quiz!

Plano ISD 2020-2021 Academic Calendar Approved

Plano ISD’s school calendar for 2020-2021 has been approved and includes two fewer school days for students and teachers, as well as an additional five minutes added at the beginning of the school day for early childhood, elementary and middle schools. School hours for high and senior high schools remain unchanged.

Other calendar features include a Wednesday, August 12, 2020 start date and a Thursday, May 27, 2021 end date, a full week off for Thanksgiving and spring break is slated for March 8-12, 2021.

Bell schedules for all campuses are as follows:

· Early Childhood Schools: Beaty, Isaacs and Pearson
7:55 a.m. - 3 p.m.

· Head Start
7:55 a.m. - 3 p.m.

· Elementary Schools (grades pk/k–5)
7:40 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

· Middle Schools (grades 6-8)
8:25 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

· High/Senior High Schools (grades 9-12)
9:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

· Academy High School
9:20 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

· Health Sciences Academy and IB World School
9:00 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.

· Special Programs
Elementary (grades K–5): 7:40 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
Middle (grades 6–8); 8:25 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Secondary (grades 9–12): 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
