Back-to-School 2018-2019
Welcome Back: A Message from Mrs. Barbee
What a wonderful start to this year! I have missed you and your kiddos, and am very excited that we are back to school! I am also excited about the work that has been going on this summer to prepare for a great year! During the month of July staff came together to consider their beliefs about teaching and learning, as well as the importance of partnering with and engaging families. As a result of that conversation we drafted a new vision, mission, and strategic plan for Bethel:
Vision: Empower Students to Impact Positive Change
Mission: To love, nurture, and inspire a passion for lifelong learning
Strategic Plan:
- Daily modeling, encouraging, and connecting with every child
- Building authentic relationships with families
- Be present and engaged in mind and body every day
- Cultivate environments that promote curiosity and critical thinking
We LOVE what we do, and are dedicated to fulfilling our vision, mission, and strategic plan. Thank you for allowing us the honor of working with your children each day. I value you as partners in education, and as your child's first teacher! This is going to be Bethel's best year ever! Welcome back!!!
Your Vision and Beliefs about Learning - We want to hear from you...
Curriculum Night 2018-2019: Parent Workshops
SAVE-THE-DATE
Our Title 1 Curriculum Night will be Thursday, September 27th, 6:00-7:15 pm, and will focus on parents and parent learning opportunities! This is a parent-only event, and is a time for you to ask questions, hear from your child's teacher(s), and to get support for bridging home to school!
There will be 2 sessions. Please plan to arrive and be in your child's class by 6:00 pm. Teachers will repeat the same session twice.
Session 1 - 6:00-6:30
Session 2 - 6:40-7:10
If you do not have 2 or more children, and will not need to attend a second classroom session, please plan to take advantage of the various community agencies that will be in attendance as well (Scouts, Atrium Health, Midland Friends of Library, staff to support folks in filling out lunch and/or background check forms online, etc.).
If child-care is an issue for you, please let your child's teacher(s) know. We do not want this to prevent folks from being able to attend, as your participation is vital to making this night of learning successful.
Please plan to attend! We cannot do it without you, and look forward to learning with you Thursday, September 27th.
Bethel Elementary School - Title 1
Bethel Elementary will receive Title I status beginning the 1819 school year. Title I status is awarded to schools based upon the percentage of families who qualify for free or reduced lunch, and will provide us with additional federal funding to support an increase in staff and services. This year we will have a full-time interventionist and instructional coach, and 2 additional classroom teachers to reduce class size. Please note that this information can also be found in your child's agenda - Parent and Student Handbook.
As a parent of a child in a Title I school, you may request information regarding the qualifications of your child’s teacher:
Right to Review Teacher Qualifications
As a parent of a student at Bethel Elementary School, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers who instruct your child. Federal law allows you to ask for certain information about your child’s classroom teachers and requires us to give you this information in a timely manner if you ask for it. Specifically, you have the right to ask for the following information about each of your child’s classroom teachers.
Whether the NC Department of Public Instruction has licensed or qualified the teacher for the grades and subjects he or she teaches.
Whether the NC Department of Public Instruction has decided that the teacher can teach in a classroom without being licensed or qualified under state regulations because of special circumstances.
The teacher’s college major; whether the teacher has any advanced degrees and, if so, the subject of the degrees.
Whether any teachers’ aides or similar paraprofessionals provide services to your child and, if they do, their qualifications.
Our staff is committed to helping your child develop the academic knowledge and critical thinking he/she needs to succeed in school and beyond. That commitment includes making sure that all of our teachers and paraprofessionals are highly skilled and qualified.
If you would like to receive any of this information, please call the school at 704-260-6070.
