Language Arts

In Reading, we will continue to discuss fix-up strategies to use when students come to an unknown word. Students will practice retelling using the Five W's. (Who, What, When Where and Why) In Readers Theater, students will practice in reading fluently with expression in groups.

In Word Study, we will study high frequency words and spelling patterns. Each Monday a list will come home. Students will select from the Homework Menu a way to practice of their choice each night. Spelling tests will be on Fridays. This week we will study vowel digraph -oa as in boat and -ea as in leaf.

We will practice and review addition and subtraction strategies as we wrap up Chapter 1. Homework should always give practice of similar problems taught at school. Here are a few additional practice links to explore with your child if you like:

Social Studies

We will study how local communities have changed over time. We will also discuss natural resources that our state is known for.
