Tumuaki Message
Kia ora Parents and Whānau,
I hope that your whānau had a great break and family time over the long Easter weekend. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the awesome helpers that have done the mahi with us this term.
As part of our linking with the community, we held a Curriculum Information Evening last night to let you know how we learn at TNIS. We had a fantastic turnout of over 100 attendees. The slideshow presentation will be available on the school website early next week.
Next week we are holding a Parent and Whānau Session – Managing Online Safety, including Q & A run by Netsafe This is targeted at parents of upper primary and Intermediate children. Please come along to learn some tips on how to keep our children safe online.
More information is shared below. We hope you are able to join us next week.

Camp Raglan
It's been a whirlwind few weeks as teams of TNIS learners travelled to and stayed at Camp Raglan this Term. Each team enjoyed the challenges of the activities and of living in close quarters with others for a few days. We were (mostly) very lucky with the weather and we are so proud of our learners who took Action by wholeheartedly engaging in the activities, strengthened Connections with their peers and teachers and displayed excellent attitudes and behaviour. They ACE'd it!
Thank you again to all the parent volunteers who attended camp with our teams. We are so very grateful for your help!School News
Thank you to all the parents and whānau who came to our presentation last night. It was great to see so many of you keen to learn about our curriculum. Thank you also to our hardworking teachers who spoke so passionately about learning at TNIS.
A copy of the presentation slideshow will be available on our school website early next week.
This presentation will cover key messages and information for parents and whānau to support and prepare their children to navigate online environments and manage online challenges and risk with confidence.
Specifically, topics that will be covered are:
- Harmful Digital Communications - what is it? How to recognise it as parents and as a young person.
- What practical steps can one take to reduce, prevent, and respond to online harm?
- Important conversation starters to have with your children about their technology use and how these can help reduce the risk.
- Understanding the digital landscape - latest statistics on young people's experiences online.
- Supporting families to understand that not all screen time is equal. Distinguishing between active and passive use.
- Community connections - how our interactions between young people, parents, teachers, and other professionals can provide guidance and support.

Free Girls' Self-defence Courses
Once again, our school has been given the opportunity to offer Year 7 and 8 girls at TNIS a free self-defence course through The Women's Self-Defence Network. The courses are held onsite at TNIS and have been very popular over the past few years.
Please click on this link for further information about the courses and how to register your daughter.
Reminders
From the first day of Term 2 2021, the 087 from (Stanley Bay To Westlake Schools) will start running 10 minutes earlier than at present. The bus will depart bus stop number 3456 at 58 Stanley Point Road at 7.35am. There will be no change to the route.
This change will help to ensure students arrive at school on time, in light of the congestion currently being experienced on Lake Road.

Northern school of performing arts are bringing the full production of 13 The Musical to a Sportscave HBC - April 15 - 17
As with most theatre this last year it has been pretty tough and as you can imagine the cost to put on these shows is huge so we must sell our tickets!!! We do love it as its all about the students and producing amazing productions for the community. Our creative team has vast amounts of experience within Musical Theatre in New Zealand. Our cast are based all over North Shore and Rodney District.
13 The Musical is a coming of age show following a move from New York City to Small town Indiana, young Evan Goldman grapples with his parents divorce, prepares for his upcoming bar mitzvah, and navigates the complicated social circles of a new school. This will be a fringe style show and the cast is made up of our senior students. They will also be accompanied by a live band which will be integrated into the show. The Students are learning to perform as well as learning about all aspects of behind the scenes. We are bringing Theatre to the people and making it accessible to everyone.
