- MUTE YOUR VIDEO (also on the lower left of the screen) when eating, scratching, talking with someone else in the room, or anything else that might distract others.
- CLOSE UNNEEDED APPS to keep the video optimally functioning.
- WHEN SPEAKING, let others know that you are finished by saying one of these sign-offs: “That’s all.” “I’m done.” “Thank you.” so that everyone knows you have finished.
- RAISE YOUR HAND or use the “raise hand” feature that is at the bottom center of your screen if you want to speak.
- USE CHAT (also on the bottom center of your screen) to ask questions and make comments silently.
- LOCATION MATTERS...If you are sitting in front of a window, you may be completely darkened by the light coming through the window behind you. Overhead lights may also need to be turned off or dimmed.
- SIGN OUT or “Leave the Meeting” (bottom right) when the session is finished.

Attendance Matters at Helix Charter High School
Parents/Guardians & Students - As we start the new school year, there are some changes regarding attendance from our experience in the Spring of 2020. Attendance will be taken by teachers for all classes. The following factors will earn students positive attendance during Distance Learning:
Attending Mandatory Zoom classes
Submitting asynchronous work that has been assigned by the teacher
Please note: Submitting work demonstrates positive attendance, however, grades are based on the quality of the work submitted/completed. Students can make up missed attendance by attending weekly tutorials with their teacher.
We have learned that the following steps are very helpful for students in a Distance Learning instructional model:
Create a schedule with your student and make a commitment to stick with it. Structure and routine can greatly help your student from falling behind with assignments. Discuss your family’s schedule and identify the best times for learning and instruction. A family calendar or other visuals could be useful for keeping track of deadlines and assignments.
Try to find a space where you live that’s free of distractions, noise, and clutter for learning and doing homework. This could be a quiet, well-lit place in your dining room or living room or a corner of your home that could fit a small table, if available.
Contact a member of the Grade Level Team if you are in need of additional support.
