From the Desk of the High School Principal-Mr. Tom Roote
During this difficult time, many of us are developing a keener sense of what needs to happen in order to be more joyful and to help others do the same. The less time we spend on problems, the more time we can spend on joy! Brene Brown says, "This pandemic experience is a massive experiment in collective vulnerability. We can be our worst selves when we’re afraid, or our very best, bravest selves. In the context of fear and vulnerability, there is often very little in between because when we are uncertain and afraid our default is self-protection. We don’t have to be scary when we’re scared. Let’s choose awkward, brave, and kind. And let’s choose each other."
As a means to the aforementioned end, I am inviting you to a Virtual Variety Show set to be posted to the Newark High School Twitter page beginning Friday night at 7 pm. Let's laugh together!

Social Emotional Learning and the Plan for Excellence
April is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAM). The National Sexual Violence Resource Center educates and engages the public in April to address this widespread issue. This year's theme is #IAsk, because asking for consent is healthy and normal. Please visit the High School Counseling page on Schoology for more resources and activities. In addition, reach out to Mrs. Crawford if you have any questions.
