A Message From Mr. Standish
Southside Middle School will continue to focus on three major areas for the 2019-2020 school year: First, Tier 1 instruction. This is the daily instruction that occurs in the regular classroom. Our focus is for students to be authentically engaged in academic work, not just busy. In addition, we will make sure lessons are challenging each student to ensure academic growth. Second, Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Southside will continue to present character eduction lessons at least once a week. Students are having great conversations around these character traits and we want to support that enthusiasm. Third, parent engagement. We have formed a PTO and we want any parent/guardian who wishes to help to be a part of these meetings. Meeting dates will go out with the Sunday Message. One of our goals with parent engagement is to see things from a parent perspective. We welcome feedback from all family members.
Fall sports are now in the history books and we are preparing for the winter sports season. As a reminder, students have to have a current physical on file to practice or participate in a game. We will once again take great pride in our Southside athletic teams by holding students and fans to the highest standards of sportsmanship at home and away.
As a reminder, Southside offers after school tutoring to any student who wishes to stay after school and receive help. Tutoring is daily from 4:15-5:15 p.m. Students do not have to sign up, they simply just need to arrange for a ride to pick them up at 5:15 and then stay after for tutoring.
