what is a genetically modified organism?

A genetically modified organism (GMO) is an organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques.

certain health risks?

Critics of GM foods say that these types of foods may create new health risks. New allergies may be created due to this movement. There is also the idea that the bacteria could end up within the bodies of humans.

hurt small farmers?

If large farms begin to patent their genetically modified crops, small farms will be indentured to large farms.

harm to the environment?

It is believed the GM crops are an uncontrolled experiment with unknown consequences for surrounding ecosystems.

goes against nature?

Some argue that changing an organisms genetic makeup is unnatural.

only concern for profit?

People who go against GM crops say that large firms with those plants are only concerned about their profit and not the risk it is to the environment and humans.

poor oversight and regulation?

Large firms that a mass producing these modified crops are overlooked and are not thoroughly inspected without regulation.
