PARCC Testing
The students will begin PARCC testing on Tuesday, April 10th. We will begin testing promptly at 8:30 each day, so it is important that your child arrives to school on-time. If your child has headphones to use, please send them each day for testing. Please also encourage your child to get a good night's sleep and to eat a healthy breakfast.
Reading
This week in reading we finished up our Informational Unit. The students took their unit assessment. We will move on to our final Fiction Unit following IAR testing.
Please look for the final constructed response piece in your child's Friday Folder.
Northrop Grumman Engineering Stem Activity
Math
We started the second half of our module this week. We focused on area of rectangles with fractional sides. The students had to use all of their previous knowledge on fraction operations in order to solve the area problems. It was a challenging week, but a lot of hard work!
Writing
This week, we worked on our argument essays. The students are arguing for or against chocolate milk in schools. We flash-drafted and now are going back to edit and revise on a daily basis. Some things we are working on are: adding a variety of evidence, citing our sources, and having just the right mix of evidence and analysis.
Supporting Your Student Parent Workshop
As a parent, have you ever wondered what you can do with and for your student over the summer to help avoid that “summer slide?” Are you looking for tips on how to calm difficult behaviors and help restore the peace in your home? All parents are invited to join us at this informational workshop on Wednesday, April 17 from 5:30-7:30pm at Meadowview School (2525 Mitchell Drive). A number of local organizations will also be there to share resources. Childcare will be provided.
