Educational Trip "Must Do's" from School Nurse Makowski
Field Trips:
Please inform the nurse of any upcoming field trips and provide a list of students attending the field trip at least 1 week prior to the event.
Field trip staff will be updated on any medical concerns or emergency medications needed for students attending the trip by the nurse.
The nurse will supply a generic EpiPen for a staff member to carry for any student who self carries an EpiPen but does not have their EpiPen with them the day of the field trip.
Policy # 4030:
Regarding field trips, inhalers and epinephrine auto-injectors should be carried by the teacher unless written authorization from a physician and parent state otherwise. Students may self-carry and/or self-administer other prescription medication on field trips only when it a) is requested in writing by the attending physician, and b) is authorized in writing by the parent or legal guardian, and c) is in consultation with school nurse-teacher and administration.
In an emergency life-threatening situation, all school personnel are authorized to administer medication. ("Good Samaritan Statute" insulates a person who voluntarily and gratuitously renders emergency assistance from liability for civil damages unless the Samaritan is guilty of "gross negligence or wanton conduct.") General Laws 9-1-27-1

From Special Education
Teachers - Please reach out to case managers if you do not currently have appropriate snapshots for students with IEPS. We are working through Powerschool issues and Katie wants to make sure everyone has access to what they need for kids to be successful.
Please Attend IEP Meetings
We understand how important it is to instruct our classes, however, when you are invited to an IEP meeting, it is for a specific reason, usually pertaining to the student's IEP goals. There is a legal obligation to attend. If teachers can't attend an IEP meeting that they have been invited to, they MUST contact Katie, Mike, and Jen with that request.
Update from Ms. Pedro
My current caseload can be found here. Sorry for the delay getting this out. Students on this list benefit greatly from additional literacy supports, such as previewing text features & vocabulary, activating prior knowledge, root word connections, and read aloud. If there is any way I can help support literacy in your classroom or if you have questions about a student's personal literacy plan, please reach out. I will try to update this doc as changes occur, which typically happens mid-year. Thanks!

PLU's
PLUs Demystified: Some questions have come up for PLU submissions, tracking and what the process is. Here is the latest and the best
Spreadsheet for Tracking your PLU hours, thanks to Dana Morel for sharing this with me. The spreadsheet is for your record keeping, and if RIDE decides to audit your records, you can provide evidence of your completed hours.
It is recommended that you submit a completed Verification Form yearly and get the required signature.
If you are up for recertification, you must submit this form to the superintendent.
Make a copy of the verification form; send the completed and signed form to the central office Administrative Assistant for the superintendent’s signature.
