Rocket Review
Week of May 31, 2019
Here Comes June!
The count down has officially begun! We have 10 days left of school! June arrives tomorrow and the summer weather has finally arrived in Michigan.
Our week at Morgan has been fully packed of activities as we work to complete all of our annual year-end requirements and fun activities. The M-STEP is over and NWEA will wrap up next week. Please remind your children to do their best on the NWEA so they can finish their year strong and achieve their learning goals for the 2018-2019 school year.
Next week will bring more annual year-end events as Morgan participates in Field Day, Thursday, June 6. Let's hope the rain stays away next Thursday! We have a rain date for Friday, June 7, but it would be better if we didn't have to try and reschedule the many volunteers and activities on short notice.
The following week, Morgan will host their annual staff vs. 6th grade softball game on Wednesday, June 12 in the afternoon. Please remember that this event is intended for present Morgan students, staff, and parents. In the past, we have had numerous former Morgan students return to watch the game without adult chaperones. If you have a current Morgan student with a former Morgan sibling, their sibling is welcome to attend the softball game with parent chaperone. Any former Morgan students who arrive without parent chaperone, or a group of students with one adult who is not their parent, will be asked to leave. Our PTO and Student Council are supplying Kona Ice for the softball game for our Morgan students.
Our Safety Patrol/Service Squad/Science Olympiad students had a pizza/movie celebration this afternoon in the gymnasium, provided by our PTO with organization by Mr. DeLorenzo, Mr. Mirovsky and Ms. Gena. Morgan would like to thank all of our Safety Patrol and Service Squad students who give up their lunch recess and commit to helping others throughout the entire school year! Your help is greatly appreciated by staff, students, and community.
As the weather is feeling more like summer, get outside and enjoy with your children this weekend! Perfect bike riding, walking, swimming, and outdoor game weather. Playing with your children let's them see the kid in you and creates those special times together that are never forgotten.
Have a great week!

Toys at School
Please leave personal items at home. If students would like to trade or share their toys, after school arrangements between families would be a great way to continue socialization and spend time with friends.

Morgan to Honor UCS Seniors from Morgan 2019
Graduates of the Class of 2019 who are former Morgan Rockets are invited back to Morgan on Tuesday, June 11 to participate in a final Clap Out from our current Morgan Rockets. Graduates should arrive to Morgan at 2:45 PM, with cap and gown if possible, and report to the Media Center.
Our Clap Out will occur at 3:00 PM followed by a reception in the Media Center with treats for the graduates. Morgan staff is looking forward to seeing former students as they finish their school career and move on to the next phase in their lives.
Morgan Lunch Monitors
Morgan continues to look for additional support during the lunch hour. While our building is allocated a certain amount of paid EduStaff lunch monitors, we can take additional support in the form of volunteers. Students really enjoying seeing their parent/grandparent/aunt/uncle at school during the lunch time helping in the lunchroom or walking around the playground with the kids.
If you are interested in becoming a paid lunch monitor, please click on link below to start an application with EduStaff. EduStaff certified lunch monitors are paid an hourly rate each day they work. EduStaff employees can also complete additional, free, online training sessions and become substitute paraprofessionals for additional paid hours of work.
Morgan also takes volunteers with a current background check on file. If you filled out a Volunteer Sheet within the past few years, you should be able to volunteer for field trips, classroom help and lunch supervision. If you are unsure about your volunteer status, please contact the Main Office and Sharon or Melissa can check for you: 586-797-5800.
If you are interested in volunteering during the lunch hour, which runs from 11:30 AM until 12:15 PM each day, please contact Melissa in the main office and let her know what days you are available to volunteer. Grandparents/aunts/uncles/neighbors are all welcome once we have a background check on file.
If you have any questions, please call Morgan at 586-797-5800 or email Mrs. Lasky at sue.lasky@uticak12.org.

UCS News and Updates
The Morgan Volunteers PTO held their final meeting for the 2018-2019 school year this past Monday. We would like to welcome the following members to our PTO board and support staff:
Vice President: Haig Istamboulian
Web Masters: Diana Bushman & Jerome Ohnui
Scholastic Books/Birthday Books: Laura Walker
Our PTO also voted to purchase 2 sets of nets for our existing soccer goals, to be installed in the fall. Additionally they approved the purchase of 4 new soccer goals to create two new soccer field areas. These will be ordered and installed for use in the fall. The playground committee is also researching the purchase of a Gaga ball pit, hopefully to be installed in the fall as well.
The Nature Center has been brought back to life! A team met in May for a clean up of the trails and spread 20 yards of mulch on the trails. We can now access more of the trails in the nature center and are working on creating an outdoor classroom area, new sign at the entrance, and the installation of our "Toomey Trail" marker.
Parents in attendance at Monday's meeting also heard update on Morgan improvement projects occurring during the summer of 2019. On Friday, June 14, the Morgan Main Office will be temporarily relocated to the Music Room as work crew begin demolition of areas in the main office. The office will be expanded to include a secure vestibule for entrance to the building after students arrive for the day. The renovation will include a second door added to the outside of the building, new flooring in the lobby and main office, new LED lighting in the lobby and main office and rearrangement of the layout of the main office for better security.
There will also be three classrooms receiving new carpet this summer. These projects were made possible through your support of our bond initiative this past November.
The PTO will be meeting again in the fall and looks forward to seeing many parents join in the fun and exciting projects we have that make Morgan Elementary a special place to learn and grow!
