Water is Worth It Challenge! For Akron Students!
WHAT TEACHERS AND PARENTS NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE CHALLENGE
On Saturday, May 9, 2015 the City of Akron is inviting families to an Open House at Akron’s Water Reclamation facility in the Cuyahoga Valley. This day-long event, the BLUE HERON HOMECOMING AND ENVIRONMENTAL FESTIVAL, will celebrate the accomplishments of Akron’s wastewater treatment plant, and also welcome the flock of blue herons that for more than a decade has turned the city property into a rookery – a breeding place for heron families.
The Open House takes place from 10:00AM to 2:00PM, and the program for the day includes:
Hands-on environmental science demonstrations and activities for children
Exhibits by local engineering firms and environmental businesses
A tour of the Akron Water Reclamation Facility, including the plant’s laboratory
A guided trolley tour of the Bath Road Blue Heron Rookery
And much more!
IN ADDITION, students in grades K-12 will have an opportunity to compete in our 2015 Water Is Worth It! Challenge, sponsored by the Akron Waterways Renewed Program. Do you love to draw, create artwork on the computer, take photographs or write comics? Then students handiwork can receive its’ due glory and win them prizes! Your entry will give you the chance to win a Great Akron Experience Family Prize Pack, which will include tickets and passes to fun and exciting places around the city for you and your family to do over the summer! Someone will also win tickets to sit in a Lodge at an Akron Rubber Ducks Baseball Game! Each category has three place prizes available for both individual entries and class/club entries.
