Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 30th September 2016
exploring holy island
Year 5 have been on Lindisfarne since Wednesday, and will return later this afternoon. Their adventures started straightaway, with the excitement of seeing the seals close into shore. Their first day continued with exploration of rock pools and the castle. Wednesday closed with a night walk! Mr Dudman gave his 'seal of approval' to the day's activities when the staff phoned in with their daily report!
Thursday saw further exploring, as they mapped the island and visited the priory. They managed to sneak in an ice cream too, which was well deserved.
We can't wait to hear what they got up to today, and to get their first hand accounts of the visit when they return to school on Monday.
welcome worship
Please check out the diary dates below to see when your child's class is leading Welcome Worship - all parents and carers of the class involved are warmly invited to attend. Also, please come along to our Harvest Festival Service on Wednesday 12th October which will be led by Year 4 and take place in the Cathedral at 11 o'clock.
castle building
Last week Year 1 were impressed by their visit to Bolton Castle, and have continued the topic by building their own castles on Thursday! Thank you Mrs Parker for getting parents and grandparents involved - and thank you to everyone who came to get stuck in, we were delighted to have so many helpers.

embroidered hoodies
All order slips (as long as money was included with the order) have been collated and delivered to the School Uniform Shop. The hoodies should arrive in school within 7 to 10 working days. We will distribute them directly to the children (packed in a plastic bag so you can name them before they are worn).
Do you have a spare room?
As yet we have not had any volunteers to give a temporary home to our Spanish student.
Our partnership with the university in Segovia continues this year. We hope to welcome another trainee teacher to join us. We are looking for a family with a spare room who would be willing to host the student. The willing family could specify a male or female student. It is an excellent opportunity for your children to improve their Spanish and learn about a different culture. They would pay towards their accommodation costs up to £200 per month and are expected to contribute to the household for example cleaning, cooking or babysitting. The school depends on host families for this project to continue. If you would like more information please pop into the school office or see Mrs Binks.
Friends of Ripon Cathedral School Update
Thank you for supporting our book fair this week. We hope everyone enjoyed the choice of books on offer. We are looking forward to receiving a healthy cheque for the commission to put towards further projects.
Our next community event will be an Autumn disco. The date is yet to be finalised, but please look out for the announcement, we're sure it will be as much fun as usual!
It may seem early to be thinking about Christmas raffles, but we would really like to gather donations from local businesses early so that our printed raffle tickets can acknowledge their generosity. A flyer will be going out, and if you know a business which would be happy to support the school in return for a mention on the raffle tickets, we would be grateful if you could approach them, thank you.

message from the Cathedral
We have a very busy weekend at the Cathedral. It will be lovely if you are able to join us for our Ceilidh on Saturday night. There are tickets in school and at the Cathedral shop. The price includes a lovely two-course supper.
I know that some of you are planning to bring your children to our Harvest celebration on Sunday. This will be a very family friendly service in the style of Café Church. Even if you are unable to attend I will be delighted to meet children at the West door (main entrance) at 10.15am and they will be looked after by our Children’s Church team and can be collected at around 11.30am. We are really looking forward to seeing them!
Children are invited, if they wish, to make a sculpture out of fruit (and/or) vegetables. There will be prizes. We will have Harvest gifts for the children to take up but you are welcome to send canned goods for the food bank or traditional harvest produce. There will be stalls to sell home-grown goods at the end.
It is not too late for Y6 children to go along to Canon Ruth’s “Youth Burst” at her home. This is a weekly event and forms are available in school or you can e-mail her at canonruth@riponcathedral.org.uk.
It was exciting to have so many children at Cathedral Club on Wednesday. We missed our Y5 members and hope they had an amazing few days on Lindisfarne.
